Hello All,
Vimochana, a women's collective working for women's rights needs some
web-developers for their Courts of women' project
(http://www.eltaller.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=section&id=7&Item…)
They would be happy to have pro-bono work or would be ok with paying for
professional services too(something not too exorbitant).
If there is anyone interested in taking this up, can you please mail me
- vinay at itforchange dot net
Thanks,
Vinay.

It appears that the Union government is getting ready to throw free
speech and due process provisions into the pit. The provisions in the
act don't just specify news articles, but a broad range of information
like blogs.
From article by Manoj Mitta,Times of India, 22nd May 2009,
"Under the draft rules framed under section 69A of the IT amendment Act,
every state or Central government department will be empowered to decide
whether a certain news item, article, blog or advertisement relating to
its jurisdiction is safe to remain on the Net.
Once somebody sends a "complaint" against any information displayed on
the Net, the department concerned will take a call on whether the matter
in question affects any of the six concerns mentioned in section 69A:
interest of sovereignty or integrity of India, defense of India,
security of the state, friendly relations with foreign states, public
order or incitement to commit any cognizable offense relating to the
other five reasons."

Hello All,
We have been having some discussions on the foss coalition list about a
campaign in Karnataka.
(Please see here to join -
http://lists.fosscom.in/listinfo.cgi/network-fosscom.in )
The details are here -
In 2005-05 Microsoft entered into an MoU with Karnataka government to set-up three academies in Karnataka, where the
curriculum includes only Microsoft products. These academies are set-up on public(government) land and train government teachers on MS products
only. This is clearly a problem and hence we want to write to the government, and make sure they do not renew the MoU when it comes up for
renewal this year. This letter also requests that the government take a firm stand in promoting and using FOSS.
Thought of sharing this with FSUG as well. The letter is attached with this email
Thanks,
Vinay.
