My idea is NOT to go for full fledged router(like

use Linux with PPPoE because afterall DLink modem itself uses Linux.
I have read that it works with DLink-502T in bridged mode so it
should work with simple and cheap bridges.
eBay shows such bridges to cost just 5-7$ but I am not
sure if it
works with Triband and PPPoE on Linux. That way one can avoid
DSL modem deposit(and have their own bridge at same cost) as well
as monthly rental. And have all the power of Linux firewall/NAT/cron
jobs etc.
IIRC, the DLink 502T has country specific firmware. It leads me to
believe that each PTT uses some "tweaks" in the ADSL2+ technology they
have rolled out. You may have to figure out the MTNL tweaks.
BTW, has anyone tried the DLink 502T on BSNL's DataOne service? They
seem to be using some other brand modem/router.
Please let me know if someone has tried this and which
bridge/converter
was used and how much does it cost?
Please do post your solution if you find one.
