As you may be aware, VPM, Thane
a few words on what is VPM and why Thane in preference to Kolkata
and why this groups is asked to vote (I have never seen a single

Vidya Prasarak Mandal, Thane is a educational trust based in Thane
on outskirts of Mumbai. (
www.vpmthane.org ). It has schools and
colleges providing education to about 15000 students.
VPM, Thane is a big proponent of FOSS. It uses FOSS on most of its
800+ computers and servers.
It has also conducted many GNU/Linux
workshops and seminars.
Hmm. I seemed to have the missed the announcements on this list then.
Through its project
Granthalaya.org (
www.granthalaya.org ) VPM,
Thane intends to create bibliographic union database of holdings of
all the public libraries in Konkan area including Thane. Vidya
Prasarak Mandal intends to help the participating libraries for
computerizing their holdings by providing them an open source
library software Koha for the purpose. Through this project VPM,
Thane already has helped many libraries digitize their catalouges
and computerize their operations. For this purpose VPM, Thane has
been involved with the Koha community and desires to bring the Koha
conference with its worldwide community of developers and
librarians to its campus in Thane. This will benefit the students,
staff, libraries and FOSS users in the region, hence the mail
requesting support to the GNU/Linux Users Group, Mumbai
I hope you will support and participate in this initiative..
