If one is really looking for an alternative to Visual Basic why look beyind GAMBAS ? It's an excellent VB clone on Linux. One can leverage on all the in-house VB skills almost totally, without learning any new syntax.

If you compare GAMBAS with VB's Visual studio then gambas will always be a work in progress. Instead look at it as a Frontend to Basic. We can develop applications using GAMBAS.

far better would be boa constructor with wxpython - runs on all platforms (including windoze), mature and stable and a real programming language
