hi,
a firm doing legal transcription wants to explore the use of linux. What is
needed is: "a Startstop foot pedal system and a Soundcard that enables you to
adjust bass and treble on audio files". Any clues as to what this is, can it
work on linux and if so what is the cost/recommendations?

there is a program called 'transcriber' that has pedals on space bar and
tab, and has all the basic needs for transcribing audio files. it is a cool
little program written in tk and works like a charm for me. As far as
adjusting treble and bass, alsa volume controller does it. the program is
available in debian as well as Ubuntu repositories.

Foot pedal cost is Rs.150/- at lamington rd. Available at Music
master.
you can use sox to adjust anything in the sound bitstream.
There is also a Python script which uses ladsp to give you a graphic
equalizer though i never liked it's o/p.
