Hi luggers,
I am using Mahitee Internet Service to connect to internet(cable net provider). I am currently using Red Hat 8.0, and I have done all the configurations required for ethernet card(eth0).
Now after typing the login page url in the mozilla or konquerer. It shows me the login page and also allows me to login.
But there after if I try to view any page like say google.com it shows alert window saying "[1]www.google.com unknown host". Can anybody help me with this? Are there any configurations required with Network proxy or any other thing? Please help.
Thanks,
Regards.

man resolv.conf.
Edit /etc/resolv.conf Add entries for your nameserver
Have you added dns entries in ethernet configuration.Talk to your isp to give dns server address and make necessary entries in the ethernet config.

I prefer to have resolv.conf statically containing search . nameserver 127.0.0.1
and run my own recursive DNS. If I think that my ISPs servers cache enough data, then I might define a forwarders entry in my named.conf, but usually I find that not doing that works faster for me.

Hi M's
I am using RHL 9, and recently upgraded my kernel from 2.4 to 2.6.1. I have updated my grub.conf file also. On re-booting i get the following error.
VFS: mounted root (ext2 filesystem) RedHat nash version 3.4.42 starting mounting /proc filesystem creating block devices mounting root filesystem mount: error 19 mounting ext3 pivot root: pivot_root(/sysroot, /sysroot /initrd) failed:2 unmount /initrd/proc failed:2 freeing unused kernel memory: 240K freed Kernel panic: no init found. Try passing init = option to kernel.
This error i got after i removed the initrd line from the grub. On adding the initrd line, it also gave an error, saying the it could no mount the root partition to ext2 from ext3 or something similar. On searching the net could not find a resonable solution. All said that kernel 2.6 does not require the initrd line.
Please help
