hi, i use RH9 which comes with kernel 2.4.x recently i tried installing kernel 2.6.x on the same while old kernel remaining intact. i don't have separete /boot partn. everything seemed to be proper while installation got over as i was reffering enough guidelines during installation. when i restarted my pc it diplayed me both options for kernel selection at boot prompt but it got hanged after i selected option for kernel 2.6. any help will be gr8full. pls reply me at yagneshchawda@rediffmail.com.

Did you check the requirements and Changes file for kernel 2.6? Please do so before upgrading kernels. Compiling from src is a saner way of upgrading rather than rpm - ing a kernel. After you get the kernel src, please read /usr/src/linux/Documentation/Changes and to check if you have correct versions of required software, run ver_linux from the "scripts" dir under the kernel src tree.
Maybe you have loadable module support and are missing module-init-tools?
