[Apologies for the wide circulation through the cross post]
This page is here to collect the suitable suggestions. So - if you have a task that is challenging enough, and are willing to mentor the task, feel free to add it below. coordinate with the project lead and make sure you apply as a mentor. Each entry should contain the task description, required skills, project mailing list for discussion and personal contact. Links to the To-Dos are appreciated provided that the task is well described there ;-)

afaik each project appoints mentors - cant see them appointing non- devs (although the persons appointed may not have commit rights, but they should have contributed code/patches)

huh... How can someone who is not versed with the internals of the project mentor a budding developer? Have you ever heard of a cricket coach who has not played cricket ? or a road car driver coaching a Formula one car driver ?
How a non devel will be able to ensure that the code quality and deliverables are upto project's standards?

Did you read that URL *before* your mail or was it an off the cuff remark ? From what I read the mentor != project lead that also translates into the fact that code submission != immediate builds of OO.o there's a strong QA process already in place. Additionally, applying for a mentor does not mean that it gets accepted without the respective project lead and OO.o team not validating it.
The concerns about document ambiguity has been already put across to the SoC team by the way :)
