If the xserver installation asks for configuration then select "nv" form the type of card. It has "nv" option in it. If it didn't ask for any new configuration then after installation is complete do "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86" and then select "nv". then "startx". (NOTE: startx command is in package xbase-clients. So if it says command not found then do "apt-get install xbase-clients") One more problem is common in debian dist. After the above configuration is complete if startx fails.
