5 day workshop on Free Software

Swecha is organizing a five day workshop for students on various Free Software technologies in such a way that they become free software developers and make active contributions to the Free Software community. Students from various Engineering colleges, MCA students and any one who is interested in Free Software technologies can attend the workshop. The 5 day workshop deals with training on - Preparing GNU Labs (Free Software Labs), Scripting Languages which include Shell & Python, Content Management Systems (Web Technologies) like Drupal and Graphic Tools like Gimp, Inkscape & Blender. Participants will be provided accommodation, food and transport. The training camp will be held from June 30, 2010 to July 4, 2010 in Hyderabad at MLRIT (Dundigal) with a 24 hour lab facility for the students. Sugar OLPC workshop in Goa 28th June - 2nd July 2010 gnowledge lab of Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, TIFR will be conducting a five day workshop on Sugar Platform on OLPC in Goa in collaboration with Digital Bridge Foundation,and Nirmala Instititute of Education, Goa, is organising a symposium on the Sugar Learning Platform. Venue: Our lady of Merces High School, Merces, Goa If you know people in Goa, please send them this note. We need volunteers with knowledge in GNU/Linux to help the school successfully run this program. The third standard school students (about 97 of them) will be given one OLPC each. Sage Days 25 - An Invitation What is 'Sage Days'? Sage Days is a confluence of present and prospective SAGE Users and Developers. It is an opportunity to come together to share ideas, brainstorm and hack on Sage. Sage Days 25 is the 25th version of Sage Days, and is being organized in Mumbai, India. In order to cater to an Indian audience and scenario, this version has been tweaked slightly. Sage Days 25 has beginner level tutorials, in addition to the usual talks and sprints, to help new users get started with Sage and help promote the use of Sage in India. What is Sage? Sage is a free, open-source mathematics software system licensed under the GPL. It combines the power of numerous existing open-source packages into a common Python-based interface. It's mission is to create a "viable free open source alternative to Magma, Maple, Mathematica and Matlab". Sage has tools for a broad range of mathematical areas like Linear Algebra, Calculus, Symbolic Math, Plotting, Rings & Groups, Graph Theory, Number Theory and Cryptography. Essentially, "it can do anything from mapping a 12-dimensional object to calculating rainfall patterns under global warming" - as Science Daily puts it . Eager to get started? Start here.
