Could someone help Prof Gangavane? Prof, I wish the term used would be GNU/Linux (rather than just the kernel's lable of 'Linux', which lacks the strong emphasis on ethics and freedom. FN

You would be glad to know that we are organizing a summer school for the faculty of engineering colleges on 22nd March 2004. "Implementing Open-source solutions in Educational Institutes" sponsored by Indian Society for Technical Education (http://isteonline.com)
I am sorry about the Open Word, but when the proposal for the school was sent we were some what ignorant about the "F" word ;-).
we would be discussing the following topics (through tutorials, workshops and practicals)
* Introduction: Piracy vs. Freedom. * GNU/GPLed way for an Educational Institute. * Propritary Problems and Free Solutions for the Academic Community (development tools, productivity applications, backoffice work). * GNU/ Linux as a Low Cost High End Server (Web/ Mail/ Database/ File Services). * Advanced Technologies (Low-Cost Super Computers based on Freedom S/W, Providing Web Services). * Project: Implementation of a GNU/ Linux Academic Server.
Some of the course material is already available online at http://linux.cs.bbsbec.org
May be that would be of some help to the respected professor. Also we look forward to any changes (though not major) in the topics to be covered. And any participation is also welcome (through proper channel)
Sincerely
Ajay Pal Singh Atwal Lecturer Dept of Computer Sci. & Engg
