I was thinking of Actually going into the details of helping out newbies ... with step by step help. I have written mails to a lot of guys who would want to learn and contribute. I am sure we will see some activity soon in fsf-prog.
regards, tarun

Let me initiate a technical discussion out there ... I have couple of friends who are very eager to start working on HURD but they have no idea on how to go about compiling their own kernel from scratch. Is there someone who is real good at it and can help the newbie's out
Nice start Tarun :)
To start working on Hurd, it is not at all necessary that you compile kernel from scratch and all. You just install Debian GNU/Hurd and go :)
See http://www.debian.org/ports/hurd
If you want to start hacking stuff rightaway, there's the Hurd Hacking Guide by Wolfgang Jährling. The Hurd Reference Manual is another source.
I hope Anand Babu might step in and comment :)
