Why another site? Why does User Group related information of India tend to get scattered over so many sites? Lets start consolidating all this information - you have two major FOSS websites in India - the fsf-india site and the linux-india site. Why dont we maintain these lists on one of these sites?
Free s/w model is not centralized . It is a model that build from bottom. Wiki provides user control over information and creative modifications. Scatering of information is a better idea that gives more access and more popularity to local users groups.
Honestly, I can't make out which part of that last paragraph I disagree with the most.
a. We are not talking about software development. We are talking about information. Scattered information makes information harder to access. This is why for students it is always better to search in consolidated and ordered information storages like wikipedia and dmoz before googling for it. b. I am not talking about new information. This information is only about collected information of what is already know. IF such lists are even duplicated (and hopefully in sync) then the purpose of information is served. c. The purpose of this information is to help newbies find their own local community. Why dont we think about the place where newbies are going to search first? I can guarantee that it is not going to be wikiwikiweb.de. d. You dont need only wikis to manage publicly contributed content. Even normal *nuke based article management system work adequately.
