Hi All,
FSF India will be participating in IT Expo to be conducted in Technopark, Trivandrum. The program will be from 1-4th next month.
Regards Arun.
Arun, I have a couple of suggestions.
Please see whether you could prepare a handout of software developers, districtwise within the State, alongwith their specialised areas of operation.
Please also try to distribute as many latest distributions of linux variants, preferably at arbitrary prices, CD writing done at the Stall itself. That action itself would convey many meanings.
Hope you would also put up for display some thin client applications, and demonstrate interoperability factor.
Good Luck, CK Raju KILA

I will try to fill in more details of the event, We had a small meeting in Tvm, including Arun, Dr Krishnan, Satish Babu, KG Kumar and myself to discuss the how to put the stall.
FSF India got the stall free of cost, thanks to the efforts of Satish Babu. Our stall is near the exit, adjacent to that of PC Quest. The exhibition is in a new building so none of us have visited the place.
Our focus is mainly on the promotion of the Free software philosophy, As things stands we will have two computers running Debian with the latest desktop and applications and one computer with a slide show of screen shots of various application.
We will also put up about 8 - 10 posters depicting the various free software ideas. The volunteers will be from the Engineering colleges here.
We are preparing a handout for general public as well as a detailed dossier to those people who show more than a cursory interest at the stall.

This is a nice idea. We will try to do it.

Again good point, let us see if we can arrange a CD writer.
Hope you would also put up for display some thin client applications, and demonstrate interoperability factor.
Can you please explain this in a bit more details.
Good Luck, CK Raju KILA
It will also be nice if you can come to Trivandrum and meet all of us.
As always we are looking for more ideas for posters, brochures and handouts.

That was in larger (selfish) interest to help promote the theme within the Government circles. I recall how Free Software was countered by a gentleman (son of IT Minister), in a personal chat, citing 'user-friendliness' as a stumbling block. I had tried to put across that with interoperability, mentioning that one could still be in front of a MS box with Linux app at the back-end, and quoted examples at various ISPs. Somehow over the tele, he couldn't be convinced.

Hello Also it will be nice if we can show real thin clients based on linux terminal server project (www.ltsp.org). I have the software and one or 2 boot roms with me.( and can spare a few hours too) We can demonstare how to recycle older hardware like 486. Also I have the latest MAndrake 8.2 and debian woody images with me

We can definitly show this.
Arun, Please consider the aspect of displaying prominent software developers of Free Software, districtwise.
Please also think over the proposal to make available copies of few good articles like, Bill for Free Software introduced in Peru, Cathedral and Bazaar by Eric Raymond etc and some articles by Ganesh Prasad listed at www.osopinion.com
I would also suggest setting up CD Writing facility to give copies of Linux flavours, on demand, at a price. That would convey more meanings than explaining. A priced version of a service product could also allay certain doubts on pricing of the products.
