Novell is coming up with quite a good things for Free Software/Open Source Programmers. Did you come across http://forge.novell.com ? /. Is bearing lotta news abt it. Seems they are working on integrating Gnome and Kde.
hi list,
"Novell management tool going open source" screams the CNET News.com heading.
ho,raman I thought Yast was developed by SuSe,how silly of me.Well, hat's off to Novell for paying $210 million __just__ for heading on a news site.<wow>
Didn't Novell buy its way through network management s/w and *nix in '93.
Novell buys... that's the bottom line.

Well, from the reports, [another story at http://www.vnunet.com/News/1153770 ] we can gather that Novell intends to set YaST free under the GPL. Novell does seem to be giving away an important part of what it bought for all those millions of dollars. YaST has given me great comfort of use for the past 4 years, and after this, more people can freely use YaST and `have fun'. Good quality custom distributions may become possible because of this move.
We could instead say,
Novell says ... have fun!
That's the bottom line :)

I would rather say that they are adding more *value* to what they got.
hi list,
I agree with pai, by opening up Yast Novell is trying to gather more user base,I guess they vary not repeat the mistake what red hat done when it done away with linuxconf and bet heavily on redhat-config-* tools.Perhaps someone who's read their python code can understand how incomplete the tool were.
Yast the most powerful GUI based admin tool, many user (including raman) with have some great time with it.

It may make some more free distros possible :) Adding more *value* to software released under GPL should be welcome ;)
