Debian is the only truly 'free' Linux distribution, with strict software policy guidelines and a human maintainer behind every package it distributes. It is funded and run by 900 volunteers all over the world, and is well-known for its ease of maintenance and security consciousness.
The Setup, however, can be overwhelming for a non-technical user, even though it is of immense help to the expert, since he can customise his system to the fullest. I myself took some time before I could install Woody successfully. The install-documentation is somewhat terse and formal. This is a step-by-step guide to have a smooth installation of Debian GNU/Linux Woody r3.0 from its original CD set.
