THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A project for development of free software of Malayalam font has been undertaken by the Kerala Bureau of Industrial Promotion (K-BIP) in association with the Asia Pacific Development Information Programme (APDIP) of UNDP, Malaysia.
The development of the fonts, tool kits, localisation of applications and documentation will be done through free software foundation, an official release said on Tuesday.
The project proposes to create free software with Malayalam support in accordance with the established international standards, so that new it applications can be made available at low cost. Further, the developed tools are proposed to be made available on the internet so that people can not only freely use it but 'also develop new applications.
A memorandum of agreement will be signed in this regard in the presence of Kerala Industries Minister P k Kunhalikutty by Ajay Kumar, State Industries Secretary, and Dr E Krishnan, project director of Free Software Foundation, here on Wednesday
