Sure, you can find some of the best techies via the Free Software/Open Source networks. And you can find links to some such networks at http://wikiwikiweb.de/LugsList -- with a focus on South Asia, but a few links beyond too. FN

Hi Frederick,
Yes-- we're definitely open to finding technical resources in country!
Given the high demand for technical talent in India, however, it's actually been quite hard to find someone with the required skillsets for this position. We've been looking in Nairobi as well, but again, haven't come across many suitable candidates. Thanks for forwarding these positions to the mailing lists above-- they look like they might be great resources for us.
If you have any ideas or leads, please send them my way.
Thanks! Emily.

Given the growing tech skills in Bangalore and Kenya, wouldn't it make sense to look for suitable candidates in the region itself? BTW, even Bangladesh has an impressively-sized GNU/Linux movement. FN

Hi e-Riders,
I've been lurking on this list for many years now and have enjoyed watching the community grow. After almost 4 years, now, I
suppose I
should probably introduce myself. :-)
I'm a technical program manager at Grameen Foundation-- we support microfinance organizations (MFIs) around the world by providing funding, training, and technical support. I work
specifically on the
Mifos project (http://mifos.sourceforge.net) which is an
Open Source
MIS system Microfinance organizations can use to manage
their operations.
We have several positions open on the Mifos team. Two are
full-time
positions based in Seattle (although there's the option of working remotely from the Bay Area): http://www.grameenfoundation.org/jobs/mifos_program_mgr_prod_dev/ http://www.grameenfoundation.org/jobs/tpm_mifos/
But the two opportunities I think would might be of particular interest to this group are 6 month in-country consulting
gigs-- one in
Bangalore, India and the other in Nairobi, Kenya--
providing technical
support to our MFI clients that are deploying Mifos and documenting lessons learned and posting them back to the community:

These are all dream opportunities for the right person.
Please feel
free to pass along these positions to those in your
network. If you
have any questions, you can contact me directly.
Cheers,
Emily.
