Hi friends,
This is realy good.
Can you make a Unicode text file ? HTML file seems to have some invalid UTF-8 sequences. gv is not able to render the ps file :(
Arun.

Dear everybody,
I am working on translating the GPL into Malayalam. At present, the preamble is completed, and I have put it up on my site, http://in.geocities.com/paivakil/freecommunity/
The files are pre-release versions, and comments on the terminology used is invited. For ease of feed back, I have numbered the paragraphs in square brackets [], and please quote the paragraph number in your responses.
It is available in four formats,
- Varamozhi text:-
http://in.geocities.com/paivakil/freecommunity/gpl-ml-preamble-prerelease.tx...
- jpeg file:- (huge - 183 kb)
http://in.geocities.com/paivakil/freecommunity/gpl-ml-preamble-prerelease.jp...
- iscii encoded html, cur'tsy iLeap - so it uses
ML-TTkarthika font.
http://in.geocities.com/paivakil/freecommunity/gpl-ml-preamble-prerelease.ht...
- Unicode html, converted from varamozhi.
http://in.geocities.com/paivakil/freecommunity/gpl-ml-preamble-prerelease-un...
The unicode file uses styles in the headers and uses malayalam.ttf (the font) by default. If you do not have malayalam.ttf, open this file (the html file) in any text editor, and add name of font you have on line 19.
- Post script format, (hhhhhuuuuuuggggggeeeeee -
251 kb)
http://in.geocities.com/paivakil/freecommunity/gpl-ml-preamble-prerelease.ps
I expect that there might some some opinions on the choice of words used, (like 'saujanyam' and 'swatantra').
Expecting your feed back (boquets and brickbats), Mahesh T Pai.
Excellent work--this is a good starting point for dissemination of information on the legal side of things...
I would consider it important to examine GPL vis-a-vis other forms of licencing schemes in the context of government and institutional applications (esp. in view of the FRIENDS fiasco).
Can we think of a seminar/workshop with resource persons such as Mahesh sometime in future? One possible outcome of such a seminar could be a report or even a book on software licensing issues in the Indian context (in Malayalam and/or English).
Ciao
Satish

Is anybody associated with the FRIENDS project on the list? I would like some info (of course, off the list) on what happened there - to create something like a case study.
Can we think of a seminar/workshop with resource persons such as Mahesh sometime in future? One possible outcome of such a seminar could be a report or even a book on software licensing issues in the Indian context (in Malayalam and/or English).
Well, I will be happy to participate in seminars. Books will involve greater efforts, and I will consider that.
Thanks for the overhelming response to everybody on the list. I am still looking forward to more feed back.
Mahesh T Pai
Please discuss anything related to the translation of GPL in fsf-discuss@gnu.org.in list. (I have written this matter to Mahesh)
