Are we not too late?
If not, can we write to the CPI(M) about this? There have been
articles about the Patents Ordinance in People's Democracy(Weekly
magazine of CPI(M)). They are the only ones(among political parties)
who seem to be concerned about this.

Patents are a devious tool to harm developing countries' development.
Not only will patents harm software; but will also lead to rise in
prices of medicines. [Read further for more info]
What you can do ?
a) Post this on your blog/website too if you have one
b) Email this to as many people as you know
c) Email to the Editor of various magazines, newspapers that we
don't want patents
d) Email to the President of India and any political party in
India who has an email
Why are patents bad ?
Below are some medicines whose cost are given as follows (In India
in Rupees) [In US in Rupees]
SYPROFLOCSACIN (29 Rupees) (2353 Rupees)
DYCHLOPHYNAC (4 Rupees) [675 Rupees]
These are just two examples. Wondering why medicines are SO cheap
in India? This is because India had a big pharmaceutical industry.
They can produce drugs at a fraction of the cost at what Merck wants
to sell them for. Infact the drug prices are way lower in India than
in Pakistan next door because
India happened to develop its own pharmaceutical industry.
The American Corporations don't like that .They want more children
to die in India. They want more profit; which means more children die
in India. They want to make sure that India doesn't produce
drugs costing less than the American counterparts. Now this is
done in two ways under GATT. One way is to increase the length of
patents. The other is to change their character from Process Patent
to Product Patent.
The thing that made American prices higher is now put up as an
Ordinance in India. It is being considered in next Session of our
Parliament.
So we need to ACT now before it is too late, before we will need to
burn our pocket before even buying a tablet of Disprin or the like.
Please follow the actions as mentioned above to spread this fact among
as many people, so that this Bill is not passed.
Maybe, the legislature will listen… But let us try our best.

Dear Friends,
I got so many appreciative and some opposive mails
about My SLYNUX ( Remaster of knoppix).
Among them, I got some mails from FSF people. They
claimed that There is nothing new in SLYNUX when
compared to knoppix . Partially I also agree with the
statement. But everyone should understand the reason
and themes behind SLYNUX.Its target is not new
markets..like MS.
I never claimed that I have made an OS. Actually,
the thing behind SLYNUX is:
I am very much interested in GNU/Linux. It was my
first experience before 1 year I tried out Redhat 7
for the first time. I myself installed itthen I was a
windows user. First of all My attraction was
captured on its GUI. I felt it was nice. I didnt
know any shell comments or other functions in
Gnu/Linux that time. My only tool was mouse
pointerlike windows I used it. At that time I thought
that all windows program can b executed in Linux. Also
thought that Fat32 FS will not work in GNU/Linux.
After 2 days I tried to remove Redhat..because I
disappointed abt that I cant use Linux for my use.
There was no mp3 support and no video player in it. So
I left Linux OS. I removed the installed boot loader
(GRUB) by over writing it with re-installing windows.
This experienceresulted me in search of a user
friendly Linux. At that time I didnt have an internet
connection. So there were limitations for collecting
knowledge about Linux.
One of the FSF friends reviewed about
www.slcreations.g3z.com (U will get this link from
www.slynux.co.nr) that the content in that site is
invalid and foolish. Actually that site was created by
me when I was in 8th Standardwhen I was a newbie in
Computer field. (I was wanted to know how websites are
created. So using some templates I created the website
and wrote funny and foolish things in that site. Some
sentences. like SL e- Periodic table came in to the
market.) I have developed a software called E
Periodic TableBut it was freeware and never came to
the market..At the time I created this html page..I
didnt know what is FSF and didnt heard about it.
In my locality (Mahe; Near Tellicherry) No one used
Linux and any one didnt know something about Linux or
FS in my knowledge. Some of them heard about Linux.
Thats all.
Some of the computer shops had Redhat. And they
thought that there is only one Linux Redhat.
Before 11 months I got Knoppix 3.1 from a man studying
in engg college (In Yanam). I became much interested
in knoppix and tried out. I gave copies of knoppix to
my friends. They used it for 5 or 6 days and said
What Linux? Even we cant use it friendly..No one
didnt understand the program names.
I gave awareness to my friends about
Linux. They became bored about hearing my philosophy.
After getting internet connection, I came to know more
about Linux and Knoppix.
I decided to make a user favourable Remaster of
Knoppix with a lot of features. I tried to learn shell
commands.. For creating SLYNUX, I had spent most of
night ( about to 3.30 A.M) for months for getting my
effort to a success. In some days of a little bit
successI had jumped with glad.
Advanced users of Linux will not understand the
problems faced by common windows users who tried out
Linux and disappointed.Because they have a wide
possibility of getting info abt Linux ( Through LUGs,
FSF community etc). But common users are left
non-techy..and they will not spend the time for
experimentation in Linux to learn it. I know it from
experience (especially People in Mahe).
I am sure that more and more people can switch to
Linux easily using SLYNUX. ( I recommend SLYNUX only
for beginners). Common People can also install SLYNUX
easily through some clicks
I have now lots of ideas to make SLYNUX more and more
user friendlyI have some ideas to develop a distro
from scratch independly from knoppix..(using a
different compression method) as someone commented
that SLYNUX cannot be considered as a distro)
I have only a 14.4 kbps internet.(phone bills..r not
affordable now a days)
I have some plans to create an LUG in Mahe. Hope that
FSF will help me..
I request FSF friends to continue sending opinions
about SYNUX or give advices to make it better.. What
Changes I have to make in SLYNUX Website?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Im now studying 10th Standard (SCERT syllabus). After
my Exams I could spend more time on Linux.
---------------MY ULTIMATE AIM IS TO FAMILIARISE
GNU/LINUX---------------------------
Regards:-

Hi
One of the problems with GNU/Linux h/w compatibility which is due to
some h/w developers who think that their users run only some crap
Windoze OS.
Now I am contemplating upgrading my PC [whole PC minus KVM] but i want
all the stuff to be linux...err.. gnu/linux compatible.
what i am looking @

The New MoBo should have AGP Slot [ I already own an AGP Graphics
card], PCI Slots [3-4],, Onboard Sound, USB with slots in the front of
the cabinet.
and yeah intel pentium IV with ghz > 2.5 OR
And yeah all of it GNU/LINUX COMPATIBLE.
is there any system assembler out there living in south delhi who can
help me build such a system?
my budget is @ the max 12K to 14K

what does top posting mean?
err... btw regarding that 13thingie, actually GMAIL lists all the
emails and its replies in the form of a conversation. so the
conversation starts from 1 to 2 and so on.. so that conversation was
the 13th one and that sounds unlucky ;-) so i posted a blank thread to
make the no. of conversations to 14.
sounds superstitous? sure it does!
:D
cheers

What seems to be a very significant flame-war has broken out at the
Linux-Bangalore mailing list, involving a Microsoft-influenced "focus group"
that is keen to study how Free/Libre and Open Source Software (FLOSS) works.
This was the initial posting that came from
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/linux-bangalore-non-tech/message/4789
and had this to say:

Atul Chitnis' reply is at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/linux-bangalore-non-tech/
message/4799
It raises a number of issues, one of which is:

In another post, the students organising this event
vouch for their independence. See
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/linux-bangalore-non-tech/
message/4813
Atul comments elsewhere (message 4799):

Another post comments:

Surprise, surprise... Atul says he traced this "student's" tracks right back to
Redmond:

Dear friends,
i'm very sorry about it. The site
'www.slcreations.g3z.com' was created by me when I was
in 8th Standard as a joy. At that time i didn't know
about free software and i even hadn't heard about FSF
that time. Then I was a windows user. it was the time
i was trying 2 learn VB and created a periodic table
software. When I was studying in 8th standard, I got
an idea to make a website ( I hadn't an internet
connection that time) I just tried 2 make a site for
understanding how to make a site.
when I got internet connection, I uploaded that web to
a freehost.
Listen the quote in the wesite (" We provide you the
best customer service as we can. This is a free
software provider. We give you different and different
software. We release software per month. The latest
software we released is SL E- PeriodicTable.(See
products). Our slogan is technology changes day by
day. So the software will become free software. You
should write to me about our site and products. You
can freely install demo version of the software from
downloads. After installing you will get serial number
from the author, SarathLakshman by a request e-mail.")
these are some statements just i kept in the website
to fill the home page. there is no download link to
get SL e - periodic table.
did u see download page ?
there is the free serial No of SL - E- periodic
table..
please see that..
actually my learning method is learning by doing:
inorder to learn vb i made this software. and i also
wanted to know how shareware versions are created?
so i made a shareware version( With Serial No:
"ISLEPT2K31" of e-periodic table.
I gave this software for free to everyone who asked
for the copy and so many students are satisfied.
I have given this software to IT@school 4 including in
resource CD. It is full version.. And i gave all
people -the full version.
"At the time of developing e- periodic table, i only
heard Linux, then i thought that Linux is a very
dificult computer language !!"
After hosting i didn't update the site later...
So please don't think that i'm following propritory.
At the time of hosting that site, there was no
visitors for that site...
IF U want SL e-Periodic table, i can send it 2 u.
Aftr my exams i will update that site with necessary
changes.
thank u all......
