RMS talking at MDI, Gurgaon

Richard Stallman will be speaking at the Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon, on 26th October 2006 between 4 and 5:30 pm. The IT department at the Institute is understood to be very much excited about it. They are also trying to fix a press conference at the Institute, since the time may be short for him to travel to Delhi. He has to leave for Mumbai the same evening. The programme was organised by Akshay Sasikumar, a frist semester International Management student there. -- V. Richard Stallman's Talk at Hyderabad

Title: Software and Freedom Speaker: Richard M. Stallman Location: Tagore Auditorium, Osmania University, Hyderabad. Time: 4 p.m., 20th October, 2006 "Free software is a fundamental requirement for a democratic and free society in which we are surrounded by and dependent upon technical devices." -- Eben Moglen. Richard M. Stallman is the founder of the Free Software Foundation and the GNU project, which has contributed the most significant part of the GNU/Linux operating system. He is a scientist, a philosopher, a music-lover and musician, and a most passionate programmer. Amonst numerous notable creations and achievements, he has written the GCC compiler, the GDB debugger and the Emacs editor, and has been awarded four honorary Ph.Ds from universities around the world. Stallman argues that software users should have the freedom to "share with their neighbor" and to be able to study and make changes to the software that they use and this forms the basis for the Free Software movement. He is coming to Hyderabad to talk about the relationship between software and freedom. All individuals passionate about software and freedom, who believe that technological development is most effective when we collaborate with each other must attend this talk at 4 PM on the 20th of October to be held at Tagore Auditorium, Osmania University, Hyderabad. I recently ran into RMS talk at WSIS in Tunis last year. It is a very good one, especially geared to developing countries. It is also a very short one, just 15 minutes long. Dr. Richard Matthew Stallman (http://stallman.org/) will be giving a public lecture in National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh on the 25th of October, 2006. The proposed topic for the talk is "Free Software, Free Society". This would take place immediately after Dr. Stallman is done with his talk in the Air Jaldi Summit (http://summit.airjaldi.com) in Dharamsala. There is no entry fee for attending the lecture. Everyone is invited. Anybody willing or able to make the trip are encouraged to drop in. Hi All, The following is an excerpt from the recent GPLv3 Conference in Bangalore. "The simplest case it, I buy a thin client, lets say, and it's got firmware on an IDE flash, I cannot take it out and put it in another commodity hardware because they lock it down. And they don't do simple things like, the kernel only has drivers for your hardware.
