If you took all of the grains of sand in the world, and lined
them up end to end in a row, you'd be working for the government!
-- Mr. Interesting
Booting problem, kernel panic, tried to kill idle process, keeps
asking for fsck of root partition.
That is a summary of what happens when my mom tries to boot the Linux
box that she's trying to use. That's all I could gather over the
phone. It's a Redhat box with custom kernel etc. It was working when I
left.
Could someone go over there (Prabhadevi) and find out what the
real problem is, and fix it? She has the root password and her user
account. I'd do it, but being in California is a problem.
Contact me privately if you are able and willing to do this. If you
could find the problem with and fix the CPU fan as well, that's a
plus.

Hi ALl,
as of now we are facing some issues with the management of mailman and
php-nuke. hence there are some issues with adminsitrative approvals of
mails to the list and web site postings held for approval.
We are working on it and will get them rectified asap.

Hi,
Please do not post this kind of stuipid and offensive mails. this is no
humour and u should unserstand that this no mailing list for this kind
of nonsense humour mails.
next time this kinds of mails to the list will end in removal from the
list permanently. Also the mail was not marked as OT in the subject.

I have just done my BE (comps) from the university.
To the best of my knowledge , my college , Ram rao Adik Institute of technology,Nerul,DY patil vidyanagar is the only college to have a first class Linux server lab with RH being used.
Also it is the only college which probably has a LUG in the college -complete with mailing list and all....we all had login/passwds ,email accts...
the best thing is this - all this is being managed by students -dedicated ones.
Why dosent someone get in touch with RAIT and then go slowly from there - word spreads...
ALso yes FE Unix is confirmed - but pls dont be too optimistic ...heres the real scene - FE's (first year guys) have 6 subjects , Unix with C being one of them
For most , programming is a new concept , Unix being the extra burden.
Infact for most professors too , Unix is a alien idea , anything the students do outside the cheap 100/- guides available will be adding to the limited knowledge the professor has. So all students will stick to textbooks since no one does practicals in engineering till maybe 3/4th year.
Also Linux initiative in colleges - pls catch only 2/3rd year students. reason - only students who will want to work for u are students who want to do an MS in CS/EE/CE in usa. For which they need to show they were geeks all along , Linux being the perfect route ..specially when they do something for college - like organise "seminars " for NCST and TIFR(biig names) guys.
this will be exaggerated to one paragraph in their recommendations and most engineering profs will blindly sign --so pls be careful abt the whole scene.
again we might also get something useful by getting some awareness.
I can contribute on sundays...in Mumbai...after december..
and yea right now I am in PCS , working for General Electric-Aircraft Engines on Java/JSP/servlets .....this is where most engineer learn their fundas - the 3 month industry training after college ..
Regards
Tript

On 18th Lug meet, I would like to make a 15 minute presentation on TROWSER.
In the last few days, I have been thinking on how to make it really
beneficial for contributors
in other words, how open source can really benefit the contributors.
I would like to unveil a newer method of guaranteeing returns to
contributors of the open source and
free software.
Please inform me in case any protocols or formalities need to be observed.

Hello,
We are happy to announce the availability of a Beta version of Linux
localized for Hindi.
We have localized the graphical user interface (GUI) in a genric
fashion for Indian language support. The system has been developed
under the project name "IndiX" and it is funded by Ministry of
Information Technology, Government of India under their "Technology
Development for Indian Languages (TDIL)" programme. The system has
been put in the public domain and you can download binaries as well as
source files. Related documents are also available on the net.
Knowing your deep interest in Indian language computing, we would be
grateful if you can take some effort to install this system on one of
your computers and give us feedback over the next four weeks.
To download this "IndiX" system, please visit
http://rohini.ncst.ernet.in/indix
Thanking you,
Keyur Shroff
PS : Interested people are invited to NCST and have a look at the
work. Your feedback is very much valuable to us.
