Mumbai LUG meeting and Ubuntu 13.10 Release Party

Hello, Ubuntu 13.10 will be released on October 17th. So, I was planning of keeping a release party on Oct. 20 (Sunday). If people here are interested, we can have a Mumbai LUG meeting at the same time! The venue will be Directi again but the time is not fixed yet. Any suggestions for time? Also, there is currently discussion going on about having the Mumbai Python user group meetup and the Mumbai JavaScript user group meetup on the same day at Directi. I thought it would be great to combine all the events to maximise knowledge sharing. Does anyone have any objections to this? Best Regards, Rigved

Elementary OS Luna

I would like to start off by saying that I only started exploring Linux recently. Well, I would like to promote a not-so-popular distro- elementary OS. It's based off Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. A hello to all listas. The old timers might remember me. ;) To those who're new (relatively speaking), here's something about me; I'm one of the old timers, infact, one of the founding members as well as the guy who created and maintained the first website for ILUG-Bom. Back then, we had a good agenda, one to spread the usage of Linux across various institutes and organizations in Bombay as well be a guiding and helping community for individuals. Thinking about it, from those days (was it 1997~98), we've come a long way, and looks like our goals have been achieved. :) So what's the latest? What does the group do now-a-days? Distro release cycle

Dear All, We thought of coming up a good story on the distro release time span. Our question is 'With many distros going for a six-monthly release cycle, do you think the release cycles of distros are too short? (And users don't have to upgrade on a frequent basis?) [commercial] LInux Sysadmin/Netadmin workshop in Mumbai.

A Linux Sysadmin/Netadmin workshop is planned for the week of 16/Sep/2013. The workshop will cover: - The FOSS model, various open source licenses - File Hierarchy - Command line utilities general. - System Admin, Network Admin. - Shell scripting basics - the ability to read and follow system scripts. - Setup/Configuration of basic services like DNS, FTP, DHCP ... - Expose the individual to multiple Linux distributions [a] The duration of the workshop will be approx. 40 hours of contact time + more with individual assignments. Attendees will meet 3 times a week for 3 hours each (90 min. lecture + 90 min. hands on exercise) in the evening hours (18:00 to 21:00). Our USP 1. Small class size - no more than 10 attendees per session. 2. training philosophy -- "Make New Mistakes and Learn from them" Thus the more effort the attendee puts in, the more s/he learns :) 3. Each attendee get his/her own system (guaranteed) to practice the hands on exercises. 4. Goal is to prepare the attendee to handle real life scenario. 5. We have prepared our own training material based up on our experience over the last several years. 6. The workshop is conducted by instructors who have at least 10+ years of Linux System/Network Administration.
