hi,
is there a way i can use a device blocked by one program, if
required by another prog.? the situation is like this, i am running
skype on linux and at the same time i want to play xmms for some
songs, (i can do it in windows, skype and winamp together so i hear
the person as well as some music in backgrond.)
to my knowledge i dont think its possible in linux, but just
wanting to wish the i am wrong ;-)

I am sure you remember, the story I posted few days back, on the mailing
list ( http://groups.google.com/group/lug-indore )about Ankit Fadia, "Ankit
Fadia : The real picture " . There is a new twist in the story. :-)
I sent this mail to various people, including one IT and Cyber Law expert,
Deepti Chopra. She also felt that Mr Fadia is doing something fraud and
misleading people. She talked to Certificate authority of India and
questioned about the authenticity and credibility of the certificate. When I
posted the original story to various people, I got many positive responses.
I forwarded all those mails to Deepti and she passed them to the Certificate
authority of India.
Now the twist in the story. :-)
Deepti just informed me that, she got positive reply from Certificate
authority of India. They have issued a notice to Mr Fadia and CEO, Reliance
Web World to stop the issuing certificates. Now we are also thinking about
taking some legal action against Mr Fadia and Reliance Web World.
Cheers to our victory over unethical business practice and fraud. :-)

Hello All,
At the linux meet at HBCSE Rajeev had given a very nice demo of the new display
drivers of linux that are well suited for 3D rendering. One application
demonstrated was a 3D file browser that works like a walk through into a room
with files and folders shaped like 3D objects.
This type of 3D walk through has tremendous potential for corporate films and
demos. Future operating manuals for electronic equipment could also be in 3D
form.
One important potential for this is in the shopping mall industry. Instead
of visitng a crowded mall, getting trolleys entangled and walking for a few
hours, an exact replica of the mall can be made available to the customers in the
form of a CD or DVD depending on the content size. The mall walk through will
have features like virtually removing the product from its shelf and turning it
around to examine it. A more advanced feature may also allow the virtual shopper
to open the jars or boxes and see the actual content inside, something the
mall will not allow otherwise.
The software can be made available as a direct installation or to make it
platform independent and live, it can be made into a live linux distro that does
not do anything except detect minimum hw like kb, mouse, usb and concentrates
fully on providing the maxiimum video and sound drivers and the actual
application that will run live. No desktop or any normal os features or services
or packages.

Ah, I had tried this earlier, and had made a check,
with netstat -a, command to find out whether this was
available.
But, then, it did not create a server.
Tried, this today again, and now it does, create a
server on port 4000, but still takes around 7-8
minutes.

The reason, I used port 0 is because, I could get the
server started on 4000 and Redhat did not make it
visible to me whether it had bound some application to
that port. Port 0 ultimately, gave a choice to the OS
to find out port for me :)

I thought, Java was preferred for networking
programming and assumed, this would be true atleast
for the years to come by. Is it true?

Ah, for the moment, I don't think, I would be doing it
in C, atleast till I am sure, I can do it.

passive, which does seem to help all the time. At

hi
i have FC4 on Server and i am trying thinclient networking with using LTSP. I could put 4 computers on thin client. For one computer i am getting problem. It has 200Mhz CPU, 32MB RAM, Trident Display. It is booting properly through LAN. It gets IP from DHCP also. Everything works fine upto login screen. at login screen X server cant show display properly. And computer get struck. What should i do ?

I just got the MTNL Triband installed on my IBM X40 running RHEL 4WS
and it was a snap! Once the hardware was plugged in, all I did was go
to the terminal, do a "service network restart" and I was online! The
MTNL guy who came to set up my connection had never worked on Linux
and said that if he had to set this up on Windows XP he would have to
do a whole bunch of configuration.
As that old ad goes, "You come a long way, baby!"

I believe, there is nothing wrong with the code, it
creates a server at a free port now, but takes too
long around 9-10 mintues

Thanks to Apoorva Madam. The server is does start
now, (with some modification, mentioned above), but
the client does not connect

I am using the port 4000 in socket programming,
locally creating a server and client for accessing,
but the server program does not seem to create the
server, while it does in windows :(...
Any ideas?

guys, i am using this mtnl's triband service, and from last few days
its dns server is not functioning properly. i was wondering if anyone
knows an ip of good dns server on net to whom i can point my machine
to look up for.
