any tool to split and join large files

In windows there were many GUI programs that could split large files and then join the fragments as required. But i couldnot find any programs in ubuntu/linux yet. "split" works only for text files, i think and so does "join" on the commandline. It would be good to know about some GUI programs which could give similar functionality as found under windows applications. Kussh

Dear GNU/Linux Users Anonymous, Let me confess it. I am a distro junkie. I change distros nearly every month. I really like distro X, which I'm sending this on. Yet I'll end up installing something else a couple of months later. Productivity hasn't suffered, because I do writing/translation for a living, and OpenOffice is there on anything these days, but I suppose this installmania is a worrying symptom? We are connected in star topology with no domain controller. All the computers are connected to workgroup. The Mail server (Ubuntu Server 8.04LTS+Postfix) runs on vmware running on Win2k pro with bridge network configuration. Certain computers have access to internet but when the mailsever is working we are unable to access the net . We need to shutdown the VM / computer to be able to access the net. I did a http sniff from my 'Host' OS which was showing unusual amount of traffic been sent out by the mailserver. I felt it was because of a bounced mail which it keeps trying to send repeatedly, so I created a local mail archiving address , but this too does not solve the problem. All computers access the internet via a netgear router. Before a computer crash the same mailserver image used to work fine. Internet Blockage

Dear Members, I am facing a very strange problem. I have set up a small mail server for my organization running of ubuntu 8.04LTS server using postfix & dovecot +Get mail It downloads mail from our mail server and passes to local users .Outgoing mail has to be routed via ISP (sify's) SMTP server . The whole thing runs on vmware server 2.0 When the mail server is on the the rest of the organization cannot access mail , the moment I turn off the VM image , all of us get the access. All the computers are connected to net via a netgear router acting as gateway. I tried http sniff and found huge amounts of data going through the server though no one seems to have sent anything.. [OT]: MSRTC Online Reservation

Folks, I travel from Pune to Mumbai and back regularly. I don't reserve tickets usually, but I thought of doing so this time. I booked my tickets through the MSRTC Volvo online reservation center at Parihar Chowk, Aundh. To my surprise, I was in for a shock. They were using Mozilla Firefox as the browser and the application was made in PHP. Wow! I was initially assuming that the Firefox was used on Windows, but when I went close, I realized, it was Fedora Linux. Wow! Amazing Superb! I'm so happy to see something like this! Have you had any such experiences in the past? Is MSRTC using Linux distros at all its booking centers? -- Roshan Baladhanvi
