First, because first-hand experiences with software and various tools that many ilugers have are invaluable. Secondly, sharing experiences and content will not only hon up your communication skills-but it will also evoke responses from people all over the world. Thirdly because India is a different country. For example, a small company in the US may even have 500 employees. In India that would be a medium-sized company. GNU/Linux is good for SMEs who want to save on their IT investments. Hell, in India small-companies are like 15-80 employees, perhaps even lesser. What is true off-shore won't be true here. One must realise that everything has a local twist. And most importantly you'd want to do this because, you would want to popularise GNU/Linux among Indian people - students especially. For this they must be able to relate to and maybe even meet the contributors. That's the whole issue of having a community isn't it? In contrast to your less-effort point, this will certainly require a lot more efforts-perhaps much more than we ever imagined. But the returns will be more promising. See if you agree with this Dharmesh. Content is an empty word-it's knowledge and wisdom that you share :). I wonder what the others feel about this. One more thing... JBoss - doesn't seem good-it is the best. Besides, the person who gave BEA WebLogic no longer works for them tsk tsk... If JBoss really interests you get hold of some books. getting data transfer usage with snmp

hi linuxers, I want to find the usage(data transfer) that is being done by my ethernet card using snmp. I was always wanted to learn and work on J2EE framework since i saw it's market potential :). But only thing preventing me was the commercial Application Servers like WebLogic and WebSpheer which are not free. Good news!! I recently came to know about the alternatives to these commercial servers in Open Source community too. As following report says, they are really powerful. Go through http://www.adtmag.com/article.asp?id=6461 and make ur hand dirty with JBOSS(which seems the best) App Server if u r really interested in J2EE. Find ur customer and deploy their web application on such free s/w ;). This can be the best way to penetrate Open Source s/w among real users. Regs, -Dharmesh
