DVD Drive

Hello I am planning to purchase DVD drive. My question is it to purchase combo drive with CD writer and DVD driver or separate CD writer and DVD drive. What are good DVD drives and DVD writer available in market and of course works well with Linux. Has anybody tired Sony brand? Thank you Komal

hdb2 not mountable : super block inconsistent

Morning guys/gals, Am in bit of a soup here. I have an ext3 disk at a clients place of which one of the partitions has gone kaput. Essentially they are as follows: >> hdb1 : /boot >> hdb2 : / >> hdb3 : Swap /boot is mountable while / isn't. I have used the knoppix rescue cd and have tried to mount the partition but it gives me and error with the superblock. When i try mounting using the mount command i get an error saying that mount partition can't be recognised. Just last week this issue had come up. I asked the client to pull out the IDE cables, clean the machine and plug them in. By the grace of god, the partition got mounted again. This time around lady luck seems to have failed me. I am quite lost for a solution to the same. If anyone could pass one some suggestions to help recover the production data on the disk i would be highly obliged. Video issues with VLC 0.7.2 on FC2

Hi, I downloaded and installed the latest VLC 0.7.2. It is playing all the video files VCD, DVD with full audio support. However the video gets disturbed with green shadows. The picture orienation and geometry is not distorted, but every object (say face of a character in movie) gets a shadow with small small green squares. I am using abit ZM6 motherboard with ATI MACH64 AGP card (detected and setup properly by fedora during install). CPU is Celeron 500 MHz and RAM is 450MB SDRAM. I am using Viewmate 17" monitor. If anybody has some clue regarding this issue please help. Rajesh Jain is the main speaker at the GLUG meet being held at KReSIT, IIT Bombay, today. He is a true technology visionary and belives that FLOSS is extremely relevant to India's needs. This is a rare chance to hear his views when he addresses the GLUG meet. Venky Getting to IIT Bombay ===================== IIT Bombay is located in an area called Powai in the Central suburb called KanjurMarg in Mumbai. The best way of reaching there is by a combination of Road and Rail. Mumbai has two main suburban train tracks respectively called after the Central and Western Railways. The suburban trains of Mumbai are called 'local' trains. If you are on the Central Railway, get down at Kanjurmarg or Vikhroli and take an auto to IIT. The auto will take around Rs. 10 - 15. To board any of the buses, you'll have to walk slightly till a bus stop on the main L.B.S.Road and take any Andheri/Borivali bound bus. The fare is around Rs. 3. If you are coming from the Western Railways, get down at Andheri and take any of the buses going to Mulund from the eastern side of the railway station. The fare would be roughly Rs. 6. Alternatively, you could take an auto which will take around Rs. 45 to IIT. Getting to KReSIT within IIT ============================ The new KReSIT building is now fully operational - one of the most impressive structures in the IIT-Bombay campus! The KReSIT building is the first big structure one comes across when entering IIT. Approximately a 5 minute walk from the Main Gate, it is situated on the right side of the road after Hostel 10 and the wide road going right to the Y-Point gate. It is equally close to the Y-Point gate; turn right after entering the Campus, and take the first left where you will see the Central School Ground. Continue walking and enter the second gate on the right. You can see the white and blue KReSIT building right away! Note that the building is not connected to the long corridor that links all the department building. -0-
