Dear ilug Mumbai members,
A workshop organ= ized by the Free Software Foundation of India
(Dr. Nagarjuna & Co) is g= oing to be conducted at the K.J. Somaiya
College of IT - Sion. All those in= terested are welcome. It would be
a 5-6 hr massive seminar. It would also i= nclude demonstrations and
distribution of the GNU/Linux CDs (Knoppix 3.4, F= edora Core 2,
Slackware). An audience of about 300-400 people (students, te= achers,
executives etc)is expected .
The gurus of FLOSS/Linux= from the Mumbai GLUG who are interested
in giving extempore talks ar= e welcome, provided they mention their
name, qualification and topic of spe= ech at least 2 days in advance.
The flow of the topics would b= e as such :
1. Why use GNU/Linux and free software?
2. What i= s Unix paradigm, how is it different from other OS?
3. How to type a= nd program at the speed of thought? Introduction
to GNU Emacs.
4. H= ow to do x,y,z ..? keeping engineering students in mind.
5. How to c= arry home GNU/Linux and work at home college.

Hello Luggers,
Does anyone know how to do = a NFS mount WITHOUT using tftp or dhcp
or bootp?
I have a kern= el compiled on a client machine having NFS support.
I have a Embedded= root filesystem ready on the Nfs server and I have
already exported its co= ntents.
portmap, nfsd and mfslock are running on the Nfs serve= r.
Now, if I mistake not, by passing appropriate arguments to = the
bootloader (i.e.Grub in my case), we can make the kernel from the
clien= t machine boot and mount the remote root filesystem(residing on
the server)
Is this actually possible? Can anyone provide me the l= inks?

I totally disagree with Sir. Nagarjuna with all my
respect for him, abt Redhat distributing CDs and other
media, after all its a part of an exchange, and
exchange between the Industry and our community, what
use would this community would be of if we keep our
selfs Isolated from the Industry. Our vision says
knowledge sharing, which includes knowledge sharing
with the Academicians, Industry, GNU users,
Developers, and all of them whom we can think of.
If Redhat can attract few more users by distributing
freebies whats the hitch. let fools come to collect
freebies, and the wise come to collect knowledge.
About every months meetings my point of view would
be:-
1. every alternate month lets keep our meeting in some
of the leading academic colleges, so that more
awareness can instilled among students, for they are
the ones who shall carry this GNU movement further.
(Remember catch them Young)
2. the alternative month venue could be any where,
would be a good idea if its with the industry, and
major open source players like novell and redhat. (So
Novell India meet on 8th is an excellent Idea). for
which some of us should really take initiative and
help in organizing at various but different venues.
So fellow LUGers lets make it at 8th Aug. at Onward
Novell, andheri MIDC.

meets due to distance problems !

Let us create some system for meetings, Let us build a team who will
be responsibility for organizing the meets in prior. Im ready to be
one of the volunteer fo this activity. First job will be to identify
the no. of venue available in Bombay, starting from cloaba,
Churchgate to Virar and Thane or further and than let us work towards
the dates if possible we decide 6 months schedule in advance topic
and speakers can be announce every month or every week.

1) In 1993 John Gilmore of the Electronic Frontier Foundation said, "The Internet treats censorship as a defect and routes around it." Is this still true today?
