I am a subscriber of LFY and my experience with CD/DVD is also the same 30% to 40% of the time I get faulty CD/DVD's but hey are good enough to replace them though it make take upto 10 days.I have also communicated this to LFY to improve upon their CD quality but i guess what you said is right untill and unless there is a mass level complaint nothing seems to work.

Future of OS

Hi REF the current discussions about M$ and their commitment to OSS.. Till today the OS has following attribs.. Most essential part of a computer for controlling access to h/w M$ dominant in OS So comtrols many applications ?? !! M$ has max profit in WORD (60% ?) So its not OS its APPS thts future Enter GOOGLE and its gmail services one of the MOST used apps (% ??) you(a)gmail.com is fantastic it is slowly being expanded to anynames(a)yourdomain.com That means for users of mail servers no installation no maintainance no spam ? If this becomes successful Google will be a dominant application server In such a scenario (in future) an OS will become equivalent to hardware just a tool to connect to the net. Then once you are on the net what matters which application is best by which suppliers. For mail and groupware I may connect to Google For Word or doc I may connect M$ That means no purchasing of Apps Now the BIG Question for the companies who are heavily dependant on their apps what ................ Hello All A thought on printers.... We generally have two types of print jobs 1. light jobs :- are usually needed "right now" typically 1-2 pages economy is not the criteria 2. Heavy jobs :- Its OK if we get the jobs next day, done from a Print Shop in Andheri or so.. SHOULD BE ECONOMICAL and preferably managable via e-mails.. This seems to be a good business proposal and very good for us who need heavy printing jobs If anybody knows such printer peopl pl let us know ONE MORE India could become a PRINT AND POST HUB FOR THE WORLD !!!!!!!!! Breaking News !

Hi guys, I am sure you remember, the story I posted few days back, on the mailing list ( http://groups.google.com/group/lug-indore )about Ankit Fadia, "Ankit Fadia : The real picture " . There is a new twist in the story. :-) I sent this mail to various people, including one IT and Cyber Law expert, Deepti Chopra. She also felt that Mr Fadia is doing something fraud and misleading people. She talked to Certificate authority of India and questioned about the authenticity and credibility of the certificate. When I posted the original story to various people, I got many positive responses. I forwarded all those mails to Deepti and she passed them to the Certificate authority of India. Now the twist in the story. :-) Deepti just informed me that, she got positive reply from Certificate authority of India. They have issued a notice to Mr Fadia and CEO, Reliance Web World to stop the issuing certificates. Now we are also thinking about taking some legal action against Mr Fadia and Reliance Web World. Problem printing with Gnome/RH9

I am running gnome/RH9, and it has an annoying non-printing problem. When I bring up Print Manager (which turns out to be a gnome utility) it first says there are no printers and then helpfully asks if I would like to add any, using the Printer Configuration Tool. Upon clicking "yes", this comes up, immediately showing my HP DJ 840C exists and has a path already laid out. I can "Edit" this but there is nothing to add that I can see. When I close the edit box, I have the option to "Apply" the new settings, but even after doing so, the Print Manager fails to show me any printers. While I can print a test page from the configuration tool, I can't print anything else, meaning no documents created or viewed in OpenOffice, or pdfs or pix. How do I fix this problem?

I think that is > required. I don't see any option like that. OpenOffice wants to use a 'generic' printer by default, because gnome can't see the attached printer, while the printer configurator can. These two parts of the total set don't seem to be sitting at the same table. In any case, it is not just OpenOffice, I can't print at all, except the test page (from the printer set-up tool within the configurator).

Commercial - TAX Calculator

Hi We downloaded the tax calculation sheet from the link below. http://ynithya.com/taxcalc/TaxCalc_2006.xls We opened the said file in MS Excel, filled in all the necessary and required cells and it calculated the tax for us. However later when we opened the document in Open Office 2.0 the tax calculated was almost doubled without making any changes to the documents. We posted a query in the openoffice list and got the following reply. ========================================================== Have you re-written the macros in OOoBASIC? I think this task needs to be done before you can use this spreadsheet properly under OOo. Chip FC5 bad ISOs.
