Hello list,
I had posted earlier about requiring hands for development on
our ARM platform.
We are now pleased to inform a fully stable ARM9E platform available with
DSPWorks. We are offering alpha samples for people who'd like to pay and
play with and test our board (the hardware is fully stable and so is the
software. It might still not be commercial grade though).
We have gpsdrive working stably on our platform and we are now taking orders
for intial samples. The delivery shall take some time (4-6 weeks) since we
are gathering volumes so that we can reduce price and get some money to make
hardware.
The specs are: gpsdrive on a handheld. it'll work in your car or maybe also
on a handy (battery unit up next).
Maps from google maps. (it should take commercial maps, but you'll have to
pay for it.). Any discussions for possible alliances are welcome.
.
All those interested can send me an email at: akshay <at> dspworks.in.
Thanks,
Akshay
Hello,
I am seeking recommendations on open source POS (point of sale) applications
that includes support for bar code readers, label printers, etc.. The entire
gamut related to a POS system in a retail (grocery store) environment.
One suggestion was TINA POS but its no longer there on sourceforge.
Then there is phppointofsale.com. Anyone used it? It seems like a good bet
but personal experiences and first hand reports are highly valued.
Thanks
abhishek

Subject: Fedora 8/ARM available
To: fedora-arm(a)redhat.com, fedora-devel-announce(a)redhat.com
Hi all,
We are proud to announce the availability of a(n unofficial)
Fedora 8 package repository for the ARM architecture.
The package repository has been built for ARMv5 EABI, soft-float,
little endian. The majority of the important and frequently used
Fedora packages have been built for ARM.
The Fedora/ARM architecture wiki page has more info:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Architectures/ARM
The easiest way to start using Fedora 8/ARM is to download the
prebuilt root filesystem, which can be booted in QEMU, or chroot'ed
into or booted from on any ARMv5 or later processor running in little
endian mode. Additional packages can be installed by using yum,
which is provided in the filesystem.
A HOWTO which describes getting Fedora/ARM running in QEMU is here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Architectures/ARM/HowToQemu
There currently are a handful of known issues, which are described at:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Architectures/ARM/TODO
Please help us by using the Fedora/ARM port and reporting any issues
you run into so that we can fix them.
thanks,
Lennert

Hi,
I'm using Fedora 8. Nowadays yum is updating at extremely slow speeds
from Asian mirrors. mirrorlist.txt is filled with asian servers only.
Is there any way that yum downloads Non Asian mirrors list from US or
Europe? or on what basis does yum downloads country specific mirror
lists. Is there any way to change the defaults?
Thanks,
Prashant

Dear Suhit,
Many apologies for taking your time again! But I
urgently need help and felt that you would be in
the best position to help us with this. For the
Koliwada workshop (and we are racing against time
on that!) we urgently need a professional
programmer. If you could forward this following
job-description to your friends who are in this
field, we will be very very grateful! Please do
treat this as urgent.
warmly,
Rahul
Professional Programmer Needed: Open source -
Wikimedia Project
We are currently looking for an experimented
programmer, fluent in html and PHP, AJAX and C#
a definite plus for a 3
months project starting immediately. The
successful candidate will be working in close
collaboration with other programmers based in San
Diego (US) and a team of urbanists and social
scientists based in Mumbai and Tokyo. The work
will consist in customizing and adding new
functions (such as video) to an existing open
source wikimedia system. The system will be used
by the residents of a neighbourhood in Mumbai and
eventually put at the service of other
communities. Knowledge of Marathi a plus.
Location is irrelevant, although the programmer
should be
ready to travel to Mumbai a couple of times.
Compensation commensurate with experience.

Well, perfect end to a fucked up decade......
Really exciting night! Someone came pounding on my door to call me
outside. Turns out, someone has totaled my car while it was parked on
the street for the night.
Why is this exciting? Because I can't walk much at the moment and that
car was vital to day to day survival. I wonder how I'll manage to get
groceries tomorrow.
Wait, it gets better.
Being poor, I'm fully paid up and current on lowest available rate
insurance. So, I called the claims number tonight and, an experience
familiar from the open source world, the number is disconnected.
Watch us drown.
If anyone would like to help either please do so or pass this message
along to someone sensitive who can.
Time is of the essence, if anyone happens to give a damn.
