Hi list,
Just saw a glimpse of an ad for BOSS (the 'desi' Linux distro) by CDAC &
NRC-FOSS. Was gone just after I realized what it was. Quite a pleasant
surprise.

Well the avg user will hav a shifty set of speakers and no requirement...
and I was talking in their regards only. High end stuff would mean better
skills and hence other softies, the noob user doesn't mix audio or do
shitload video edits... they want something that plays songs, blends with
portable players, loads pics and videos frm devices and such stuff. Highend
multimedia works is a totally diff thing and not in question here...
Syncing devices on Linux is still a nightmare. Even android phones based on
Linux are not easily synced with Linux. This is the basic stuff people
require bfr doing audio video mixing and other "professional" stuff...

Multimedia as in professional Multimedia was always miles ahead of
doze. Listen to a puretone on linux and listen to the same on doze.
Oh well maybe one's ears are a bitwornout. Use a distortion meter and
you will know.
Playing mp3s on tinpot speakers is not mutimedia. It's time pass.
Nonetheless i havent had a problem with tinpot multimedia since
2002.

Ah the drafting package masqerading as cad.

IMO R & D requires stuff that industrial guys dont even know about.
So that would put the R&D stuff 5 years ahead of the industry.

Is that a threat? How often have you made personal comments on this
list yourself ? But you're still here, Kenneth.

Canada
To: FSF Community Team <fsf-community-team(a)gnu.org>
Hi all,
I am a bit short on time but I just wanted to share these news:
Quebec broke law in buying Microsoft software
http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2010/06/03/quebec-microsoft-lawsuit.html
"Quebec's government broke the law by buying software from Microsoft without
considering offers from other vendors, the province's Superior Court has
ruled.
The government's procurement agency acted illegally in spending $720,000,
beginning in the fall of 2006, on the migration of 800 workstations to
Microsoft software, including Windows Vista and Office 2007, Judge Denis
Jacques ruled in Quebec City on Thursday. The government did not perform a
"serious and documented search" for alternatives, which it must do with any
expenditure over $25,000, he said.
The decision was in regards to a suit filed in March 2008 by Savoir Faire
Linux, a small Montreal-based firm that deals in open-source software.

Certainly not, if such comments are pertinent to the usage of the
list. So, you can hand out but can't take, eh?

Comparisons of events apart, if anyone here wants to team / volunteer for a
Mumbai event, I could propose to my principal after we have a draft.
We have had a mini Foss event under JTD, with just 8 - 10 students, and I
don't know if it would quantify as a success, but I don't think there's a
harm in trying again.

You make it real hard to respect 'old farts', old Kenny G. Cribbing
and putting people down is all that you do on the list. You've been
vitiating the atmosphere here for how many years now? What sort of
trip are you on and where do you get off?

Hi,
I'm planning to buy my first laptop, and I'm confused. Can you people
suggest me.
Budget is 30-35 K
Use :- For development purpose. It should run Eclipse, Firefox ( atleast
20-25 tabs), Multimedia. at the same time.
on my current office laptop( Dell latitude D810 with 2GB Ram) I can only
run firefox, and small IDE. No multimedia at one go. It hangs... though I
use xubuntu.
OS :- Kubuntu.
