Purchasing a RaspberryPi in Mumbai

Hi, I will be visiting Mumbai soon and am interested in picking up a couple of Raspberry Pi devices. Preferably the Rpi Zero or the new RPi 3 Model A. Does anyone have good suggestions on where I can get these? Could I pick them up at Lamington Road? If so, any suggestions for the specific shop? Debian : installer : graphical : which toolkit?

Hello, I tried the Debian "Graphical Install" during installation and the GUI felt quite nice. Very light, focused, and clean. Is there any particular name for the toolkit being used and is there any way to use that toolkit for projects other than the Debian graphical installer? Thank you, ~Mayuresh

Hello, I have finally managed to download the unofficial CD for Debian 9.6 with the extra firmware and drivers. The boot-up, wifi network configuration, and installation when through absolutely smoothly. The problem started after the first boot. There is no wifi configuration pre-built on the system, and I have no idea about how to configure the same. Would someone with the knowledge and experience please guide me through this? Or atleast point me to some material I could read? Thank you, ~Mayuresh

[off-topic] MTNL ADSL Modem : any industrial strength replacements?

Hi, I am using MTNL Triband ADSL, and the modem they've supplied is too soft for 24x7 operation at my home. I've just got the Amazon Echo Plus and running Alexa demands Internet connectivity at all times. Are there any industrial strength replacements available for the MTNL supplied modem? debian : with closed drivers : any particular variant?

hi, i installed debian 9 on my laptop and it isn't supporting the wifi sub-system. i tried minimal-install of fedora 29 and the wifi is supported but remains unconfigured. so basically, the wifi drivers do exist under linux, just not under stock debian. is there any particular variant of debian (other than ubuntu and derivates) i should try out to check if it would support wifi networking under my laptop? thanks, ~mayuresh

hello, i had purchased at amazon echo plus (latest iteration) for experimenting with the hardware, but the system is completely closed and tightly shut. i can't access the internals without ripping apart the covering. in the above case, the system is majorly useless to me and i would like to sell it off as soon as possible. i have purchased it 2 days back for inr.14,999/- and am willing to part with it for inr.10,000/-. if anyone is interested in acquiring the fully functional and in-one-piece system do let me know at the earliest. best regards, ~mayuresh

Variables used in the RHEL config files and init scripts

Have you ever been frustrated trying to find *all* the possible variables used in the config files and init scripts in a RHEL or derivative distribution? I was working on a RHEL setup to configure a "dummy0" interface with very specific requirement: this interface shall *not* be managed by the NetworkManager. The RHEL Networking PDF (official doc) does not mention NM_CONTROLLED! After much searching, I found the answer in this Ars Technica discussion forum https://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?t=767128 They are all defined in a file that goes by the following name. /usr/share/doc/initscripts-xxx/sysconfig.txt (where xxx is the initscripts version installed by the distro) I hope you find it useful in your journey as a Sys/Net Admin working with RHEL and/or derivative.
