The reason why GNOME taxes the display H/W is because the themes that use textured backgrounds or mouse-overs etc. require more processing but not necessarily more VRAM. Still, it's not going to affect system RAM requirements (so it's not light). GNOME/KDE not light as in they require more system RAM. That shouldn't have much to do with VRAM. SiS cards, even if detected (like 6326), are driven by the SVGA X Server, instead of the Accelerated X Server. That's what causes the performance lag. Also, w/o hardware acceleration for video, the CPU speed also comes into picture along with the system load. >I have the same card and making X window run in 16 bit is a huge achievement >. I run GNOME @ 1024x768x16 resolution. <ios.h> counterpart for linux

Hi Movies don't run as fast in Linux as in Windows on my PC. What might be the reason? Isn't the client and X server using shared memory for communication? If they are not, how to enable it?
