Example: When a microphone is plugged into the speaker jack, the system can automatically re-route the mic data to that jack - From http://www.intel.com/design/chipsets/hdaudio.htm Intel HD Audio also provides improvements that support better jack retasking. The computer can sense when a device is plugged into an audio jack, determine what kind of device it is, and change the port function if the device has been plugged into the wrong port. For example, if a microphone is plugged into a speaker jack, the computer will recognize the error and can change the jack to function as a microphone jack. This is an important step in getting audio to a point where it ‘just works‘-users won‘t need to worry about getting the right device plugged into the right audio jack. Open Source Video Editor.

Hello All, A $dose user was looking for video editing software and a search for open source video editors threw up this software called 'Jahshaka'. It is ported on many platforms, including Linux. Setting up a internal mail server

Hey All, I am a newbie to Linux setup and installation. I have worked on Linux before but have no experience of setting up services like mail servers or diskservers. I have 2 boxes to test on, and have looked up lots of material online. They are running on fedora core 4. Please give me in steps on what to do for server and clients seperately. Push or Pull: Users of Free Software

All, Thought of sharing a "thought" that triggered this email. A GNU/Linux distribution is usually tried and tested by individuals new to it and often want to know how to use it. The approach recommended by most, who have already used it, is by exploring documentation and adopting a "self-help" kind-of approach. There are particularly two articles that revolve around Push : Push users to use distributions defaming a particular brand and improving for inducing the migration. Pull: Give users the freedom to test and use it. Help them occasionally with their problems. The above two ideas are expressed in the following two articles 1. Libre equivalents for Photoshop and Corel Draw on Windows platform.

Hello All, Sometimes if making a full switch to GNU/Linux is difficult, there are Libre alternatives to commercial closed softwares available for the windows platform too. For Photoshop, there is the Gimp alternative. http://www.gimp.org/ Its ready packages are available at http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html Download all the packages on this page. Install the GTK for your OS version. Then install Gimp. Then its help package (Select only English during installation). Then the animation package if required.
