Konqueror Image rendering bug

Hello Lists, I browse using Konqueror with Images "turned off" so that large size images aren't fetched. (or for that matter any image, irrespective of its size). (sometimes, or at times use Mozilla Firefox) As per rules of W3C, the "alt" tag is compulsory for images, and Konqueror doesn't seem to read that attribute and display it when images are turned off. Therefore, I have filed a bug with kde's bug tracking system with Id 145224 (so that you can search the report of this bug). If you can vote for this bug, may be it'll get some attention and fixes for this will be applied. Konqueror has known to be pretty standards compliant and is the *fastest* browser (wow!, Ah! kacpid hogging CPU (with intel dual core)

Hi, I have this machine with a new mobo + intel dual core installed, running debian etch (kernel 2.6.18-4-686).. /proc/cpuinfo shows two processors.. the system as such seems slow with high enough latency.. and top shows kacpid constantly hogging.. 90-100% of CPU time always.., acpid is running, with thermal, fan, processor etc modules loaded.. what could be the issue? or how to fix it? has anyone faced similar issue with dual cores? (meanwhile i am compiling 2.6.20 with processor type dual core selected!) Karunakar

nrc-foss node and meet on the 17th

hi, as you know, NRC-FOSS (http://nrcfosshelpline.in/web/) is planning to start a node at Mumbai. This node will help to coordinate/facilitate foss related activities in Mumbai especially in the following areas: 1. promoting foss in formal and non-formal education 2. popularising foss in schools, colleges, industry and ngos in the maharashtra region 3. fostering the writing and development of foss code in the area. To this end we hope to facilitate at least a couple of meetings/installfests or linux demo days a month in various establishments as well as help coordinate activities. It goes without saying that we cant achieve anything without active participation of the LUG. The node will in all probability be hosted by VJTI and we are having a meeting with the management and the managements of other colleges on the 17th morning at VJTI. We would like to discuss the scope and functioning of the node with members of the community in the afternoon/evening. I know it is a working day, but I hope a good number of members will take some time off to participate. The meeting will take place at the VJTI and exact place and time will be announced depending on the response we get here. Hello Lists, (see header) I am using Kubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake) on my second hdd and three applications, Konqueror, Konverstaion and Kopete (yes, KDE - Kyonki haha) on my MTNL Triband line, without specifying the DNS. The automatically accepted DNS was the IP address of the ADSL Router / Modem. (D-Link 502 T) I wasn't able to get updates using apt-get because, the command would fetch the first URL and become stagnant with no network activity over the ethernet LED. I finally, decided to add the DNS servers provided by MTNL, and wow! apt-get could finally understand what it is supposed to connect to and fetched updates. Phew! Why didn't the K affect the 'K'onsole. Some other underlying protocol, perhaps? BTW, I managed to install Firefox (1.5.0.11) and have bookmarked two links on installing Firefox 2.0 on *buntu. These updates consumes a lot of my bits, and that brings me to a question! Can I (if I get one) use the Kubuntu 6.06 DVD as a source for installing common applications (such as say GCC 3.x or 4.x, Java 1.4.x JRE 1.5.x etc?) [OT] Any telecom breakdown?

Hello All, Has there been any major telecom breakdown in Mumbai? My phones went dead yesterday but internet was on. Now phones are back to life and net is down. The Reliance fwp too has problems getting the yahoo mail website load fully. Pop/Smtp access is good though. -- Regards, Rony.
