Pretty much all of them are using pirated windows and pirated office and pirated anti virus and downtime is very high due to malware, adware, viruses. But they have no choice because of lack of accounting applications. The day we can give them such an app with assured support, will be big enough to be declared a public holiday.

Dr. Richard Matthew Stallman (http://stallman.org/) will be giving a public lecture in National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh on the 25th of October, 2006. The proposed topic for the talk is "Free Software, Free Society". This would take place immediately after Dr. Stallman is done with his talk in the Air Jaldi Summit (http://summit.airjaldi.com) in Dharamsala. There is no entry fee for attending the lecture. Need help in configuring and building kernel 2.6.16.18

hi, I am reading the book Linux Device Drivers 3rd edition(alessandro rubini) ,in the second chapter about 'Building and Running Modules', the book says that : ------------------------- % make make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.10' CC [M] /home/ldd3/src/misc-modules/hello.o Building modules, stage 2. MODPOST CC /home/ldd3/src/misc-modules/hello.mod.o LD [M] /home/ldd3/src/misc-modules/hello.ko make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.10' % su root# insmod ./hello.ko Hello, world root# rmmod hello Goodbye cruel world root# Please note once again that , for the above sequence of commands to work,you must have a properly configured and built kernel tree in a place where the makefile is able to find it(/usr/src/linux-2.6.10 in the example shown). ---------------------------- what does it means to have a configured and built kernel? , does it mean that i need to compile the kernel? I have the source of kernel 2.6.16.18 in the /root directory, how do i configure and build it? Please help I am totally new to device drivers!

challenge configuring pppoe, can some one help with following error messages?

hello all, I had previously posted this problem to ilug and got very good help from many. some one had asked me to post the log messages (I can't recall who it was, sorry ). so here is an abstract from my recent 3 days of usage. I have tried time and time again to connect over pppoe. my lan cards are eth 0 and eth1, but my internet cable is connected to eth1. here goes the log messages. I don't know what is the actual problem. my eth 0 is used to connect another computer which is now shareing internet via windows. but that's not what I intend to do. never the less my eth 1 has internet cable connected and I had used ./go command to configure pppoe for the same lan card. I had configured it to come up on demand and had not specified the time for which the link should stay up. is that the problem? if that is the case, how do I answer the question asked by ./go command for "should the connection come up on demand?" or some thing similar? thanking all. browser incompatibility: MTNL Trust line

I had to look up the mtnl trustline site for getting digital signatures. http://www.mtnltrustline.com/keygencheck.htm It does not work with firefox. What a bummer. An email pop3 client is required for using these signatures. They have explcitly mentioned OE. Does anyone know if they work with thunderbird or evolution? thanks abhishek

But wont be of much use as MTNL is NOT world recognised CA. MCA site is also insecure (uses http instead of https). Cookie is just simple JSESSIONID. Once your friendly neighbour sniffs it he gets access to your account. And guess what, this site is developed by TCS, leading software company of India. Totally not upto the mark or professional in my opinion. They have made it fully OS and browser dependent and unlikely that they would be interested in making it an independent one. Amish.
