hello all, this is Krishnakant mane again. as I had mentioned in my previous email, we are developing a talking book reader which can be attached to a scanner and can aquire documents and read it. I am particularly writing this email for gnu/ linux users and programmers in Mumbai. I am inviting active contributions from programmers who will like to join me on this project. it is a great opportunity to develop your programming skills and learn a lot about our favorite operating system. and this is a noble project. I am also facing some shortage of programmers on this project in particular so please try to contribute as much as you can. Krishnakant.

technical contrubution needed on a talking book reader using gnu/ linux

hello all, I had introduced myself in my previous email regarding gnopernicus. for those who did not read it. I am a new member from Mumbai. my name is Krishnakant Mane and I am totally blind. I have done research from IIT mumbai and now own a software firm. basically I am posting this email to inform all that I am developing a talking book reader. it is a device which can be carried in the pocket and can be attached to any scanner. once the printed matter is scanned the ocr software will convert it into text document or word document. then the device can be detached and the blind person can read those scanned documents any time any where. we are using all free software including ocr softwares etc. the device will be running gnu with linux kernel booting from a USB pen drive. however I have certain issues regarding the system. I also want to make this a community project so more and more people can benifit. I am not putting all the details in this email, but those who will be interested in contrubuting to this project can email me personally on researchbase(a)gmail.com or krmane(a)gmail.com as an alternative. right now the major problem is to create a small linux kernel that can have only sufficient modules to boot from a pen drive and support sound. please send me private emails if any one would be interested to assist. thanking all Krishnakant.

Wireless data card

Hi All, I am planning to buy a wireless data card. Two services I have identified so far: Reliance: provides Huawei cards Airtel: provides Option cards ("Option" is the company name) I want it to work on Linux. Key board events interfering with amarok

Hi .. ive been using amarok at work ... and a strange thing happens ... after some time ... whenever i continuously hold down any key ... amarok playback starts skipping ... weird ... anyone has any idea .. or had similar experiences .. ? maybe i shoul file a bugreport ... but i have no clue whats going on ... my wild guess is something to do with dcop ... ;-) -- Steven Joseph -- Life would have been a lot more easier if we could look at the source code.

Crisp Fonts on FC5

I use FC5 and I notice that the fonts are now crisp enough as compared to that on Ubuntu. I checked in Ubuntu that is used the Sans font . I also tried "Subpixel smoothing (LCDs)" but I still don't get the same Clean Crispy Gnome Menus in the FC5 . Any inputs as to why this behavior ?? Cheers, Francis

SED expression

Hello everyone. Can anyone give me the sed command for replacing a ? with a blank space in a file? i was trying out with a command resembling this: sed -e s/?/a/g test to replace all the occurences of ? with an a.
