yes, that's the only option.
I'm not much of a database expert (in fact I don't like databases at
all), but I think they use some sort of a hash based system to store
data (or is that only for the indexes).
anyone who knows datastructures will tell you that you use hashes for
key based access, and arrays for record number (array index) based
access.
