dual processor motherboard?

Actually, i'm staying in Nashik but none of the Linux people around here have any clue about SMP. Can anyone suggest where i can purchase a dual-processor (P-III 500Mhz is fine) ATX motherboard with minimal heat emission? I/O ports access for normal users?

hi everyone, I was tryign to read/write bits to 0x378 I/O port, using the ioperm() system call. But this allows only the root to access. HOw do normal users access the port? i did read about SETUID(), but i dont really understand how it works for me ?? does anyone have any pointers on this ?? Also i am trying to uderstand how ot access using read and write. for that i would need to add the user as part of the group, which can access /dev/port. Hi! I get confused by the versioning system of Linux. I would like to know why the versions are so cryptic and not easy to remember and understand like in the Redmond. I guess the general rule is: Software whose version has many odd nos. ---> Bad ( o.k. not so good ;-) even nos.---> Good Am I right? Also I've read that the first version of Linux kernel was 0.1 Why 0.1 ??? when it could have been 1 or 1.0 or whatever Also I've seen that kernels have huge version nos. Just a note... I think it is more proper for people to prefix their subject line with key words like COMMERCIAL, ANNOUNCEMENT, etc. to give a straight idea as to what the post contains. Came across certain posts which can definitely be regarded as commercials, going under names like "Workshop" etc.... people, PLEASE indicate earlier on that it's a commercial. and dint know that we could carry posts on stuff like embedded systems etc. on a linux group too.... guess its time for me to start marketing my CAD on Linux workshops by industry experts on linuxers(a)mm.ilug-bom.org.in, huh? regards, vishal. Hi Has anyone thought of building the kernel into the processor ? Definitely many must have thought of it. But I have never heard of a processor with the kernel on it. The advantages: 1. It is much smaller. The text version of your document is 7K as opposed to 61K for your PDF. Multiply this by 300 - the number of people on the list. 2. It is readable by everyone. I'd have to start up my X server only to read your PDF. That's a waste for me, and I probably won't do it. 3. No messing around with attachments. Usenet is a plain text medium 4. It is incorruptible. If a couple of bits in your PDF get complemented, the PDF will no longer be readable. The same with text, and there is very little data loss. This is probably irrelevant here, but still. 5. It will stand the test of time much better. What happens when we come to a time when there are no pdf viewers available and the format is lost forever? Reading plain text takes only a knowledge of the character set in use. If that is lost, it won't be all that hard for a cryptanalyst to figure it out. The same can't be said for a data format with structure. We already have problems with the inavailability of 5 1/4" disk drives. Ciao, Philip -- ...
