Long time to detect Reliance Data Card

On Ubuntu 10.10, Reliance Netconnect, Broadband+ works out of box, with following one issue: It takes long time (2 to 4 minutes), to appear in Network Manager. What could be the issue, and can we do something (to issue some command, run script, or setting) to make it appear in less time (say 10 seconds). -- H.S.Rai

Hello everyone, Most of you must be aware of the Indian tech startup Notion Ink, which has released its much-awaited nVIDIA Tegra 2 based tablet, Adam, which runs on Android 2.2. You must also be aware that Google has not released the source code of Honeycomb (Android 3.0), claiming that much work needs to be done, but some large hardware manufacturers like Motorola, Acer, Asus etc. already have access, and have released their Honeycomb tablets based on nVIDIA Tegra 2 to a great public reception. The Adam tablet is technically as capable as the rest of the Tegra 2 devices, but it suffers from lack of access to the latest operating system. On the other hand, Notion Ink has been supportive of efforts by hackers to improve upon the device software, which has given us various alternative ROMs, root access, etc. As of now, the community of hackers organised around the forum at http://tabletroms.com is focusing its effort on porting Honeycomb to the Adam and other 'left out' tablets. This work is being done by tweaking the system dumps obtained out of the existing Honeycomb tablets, and so far, there has been substantial progress in getting it to run on the Adam. Just wanted to point out that the non-free stuff installed during installation is not the same as ubuntu-restricted-extras. This will have to be installed separately. If you are wondering what is the difference, it is as such: ubuntu-restricted-extras has more packages (codecs etc.) than the ones installed via the installation process. Regards, Rigved Rakshit

Ubuntu 11.04 First Impressions

Hello, I tried out the Ubuntu 11.04 64 bit edition on my system and was amazed at the new UI. It looks like a mix of Android, Apple and Ubuntu-Netbook-Edition. The developers have thoughtfully eliminated the horizontal bars and put the menu vertically on the left had side. Nowadays with monitors short in height but stretched wide, there is surplus space on the vertical sides. There is this new Libre-Office. I wonder if there is some dispute with OOo? The Apple like feature is the permanent menu bar that adapts into the open application's menu bar and back after the application is closed. hi, there is a large demand for python/django programmers, and I am getting constant requests for candidates. I had tried to interest some institutes in training, but most of them are unprofessional and provide mere theoretical knowledge. Companies that need django developers have to spend too much time training their recruits. The recruits lack the all round skills in development and deployment that are the hall mark of a modern web programmer. I have decided to offer training in a live environment which will produce people who can 'hit the ground running'. The programme will be flexible, tuned to the individual needs. This means that the course can run from one month (minimum) up to 3 months. Again depending on the trainee, it will be both on location and remote. The location is Ooty, and accommodation will be provided/arranged. As an introductory offer, the charge will be 25K - and a job is guaranteed for anyone who passes. Prerequisites - some knowledge of programming and web development. More important, the ability to work hard and the desire to learn new things.
