C Programming and Vi

hi! I'm trying to adapt to C-Progamming in Linux (We have our B.E. project on Neural Networks and we are supposed to write the c programs in Linux) I find the Vi features set cindent and syntax on very helpful. After writing the program I have to press ctrl-z ,run gcc ,check the errors , fg This is very annoying.I would like to compile the program in vi itself, see the errors,go to the line causing the error,and then if the compile is succsessful run the program. Is this possible ? (I guess this is possible with some tinkering with .vimrc) Can anyone please post his .vimrc Are there any good ide's exclusively for character mode ? I checked out freshmeat but did not find any good ide (I've used Anjuta but I would like console based ide) Please help -- Nikhil Joshi

Statistical Analysis in PHP

hi guys, I have a mysql database with some statistical data. I need to write a php script to perform analysis on that data. Does anybody know any functions in PHP which would help me to calculate mean, standard deviation, cross tabulation, variance from the tables in mysql database. cheers kapil

[Announce] country codes and state list

I have compiled a list of country codes (from iso3166) and state/region/province lists for as many countries as I could find, alongwith whether they are states, regions or provinces. These have been useful to me in the past, and I figure that they'll be useful to others too. That, and I don't feel like making backups. So, go ahead and download it and make local copies, it's available at http://db.ilug-bom.org.in/lug-authors/philip/ If you think you have some updates to provide, mail them in and I'll be happy to include them after verification. I believe the CIA has a more comprehensive list than I do, but then I don't have the resources that they do. Also, not sure if using their info is allowed. Advice? Philip PS: how many people think that this would be good as a sourceforge project. Not just the lists, but also sample code in a variety of languages to use these lists in your application.
