I am using kernel 2.4.2-2
I compiled it using following steps :
make xconfig
make dep;make clean
make bzImage
make modules;make modules_install
Now I copied bzImage to /boot and made appropriate changes to
lilo.conf I executed /sbin/lilo
Now while booting linux I get following errors:
modprobe:Can't locate module opl3sa2 {My sound card is Yamaha and I
had enabled this module}
I tried sndconfig which gave me following error :
You don't seem to be running kernel with modular sound enabled
(soundcore.o was not found in the module search path)
{ I had enabled modular sound }
The second error is as follows:
mount:fs type vfat not supported by kernel { I had enabled this
during the configuration}
I tried booting through my original kernel but still I get these
errors.
Please help me.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Luggers,
I have an old 386 m/c with 8mb ram and 250 mb hdd, trl monitor (cgp display
card), SN 2000 ISA LAN card. can i install GNU/Linux on it i have RHL5.0
(which came with PCQ) or will i have to go for an older kernel. How do i
configure the display card and the LAN card ? I may put a 630 mb or 1.2 gb
hdd so that i can make a complete install.
What about startx can i use any GUI which will support it.
Please send me your suggestions.

Hi There,
I have recently installed debain on my machine. And its' nice :). I
have the following doubts -
1> How can we browse through the dselect (Select), which gives the list
of the applications.
2> If I delete the shortcuts to zope in rc2.d and upto rc5.d, will that
be enuff to remove it from startup? Or will it have some bad
consequnces?
3> RedHat used to take hell lot of time to check my filesystem. Debian
does tht pretty quickly. Why is that so. The fstab entry is the same in
both the cases.
4> How can I install rpms in Debian or will i have to install thru tars?
(need java over here)
Bye,
SP

Hi,
can someone please explain the following :
how do s/w vendors ensure that a customer who buys a
CD can use it to install the s/w only on his computer
and if he takes a CD dump, the second CD will be of no
use to anybody else?
i guess there must be many techniques to do that but
which one is used frequently?
thanks a lot..

Hello,
Can someone please explain the following?
HOST1 belongs to NETWORK1. NETWORK1 has a proxy server
and a firewall which connect it to the internet.
HOST2 belongs to NETWORK2 and is a VPN server.
Now, HOST1 acts as a VPN client, goes thru the proxy
and the firewall and initiates a session with the VPN
server.
Thus depending on HOST2, certain services of NETWORK2
are now available to HOST1.
Is the reverse true? ie can HOST2 access any of the
services of NETWORK1, thru the connection established
above?
Thanks a lot.
Mayuresh K.

Why are you testing onto the mailing list. Why don't you send test messages
to your hotmail or yahoo account. Why waste our bandwidth and time.
