Getting BTTV working

Hi! Has anyone here ried using xawtv on a bt878/848 chipset. (Im not too sue which one it is coz everytime i go hunting to get it working ... Theres always something else pushing me back to win). Basically, if i boot to win, start pixelview, and then reboot (WITHOUT SHUTTING DOWN) back into linux, i can get some kinda reception. Until then I just cant get ANYTHING! Also, somehow I find the audio lower on linux as compared to xp. But then i find it equal to that of 98. Is there any known plugin that can be utilised to gain audio ? - Satish

How to spead up Appache

Hi Friends, In my linux server (LOCAL), accessing data through the PHP scripts from MySQL tables, it is taking more time. Earlier it was very fast. Now a days some reports it is taking more than five minuits. Earlier it use to come with in a minuit. What may the problem and what is the settings I have to make in Appache to spead up the process. hello, I am writing in for the first time to this group. Please see if u can help me out with this problem. I have Red Hat 8.0 installed on my system. Kernel : 2.4.18-14 Setup : I have installed vncserver on the linux system. and i use the vncviewer(for windows) to access the xdesktop on the windows clients. (The windows clients and the linux system are in the same network). This works perfectly fine for one user. Working : Everyuser who wants to view his desktop via the vncviewer on the windows machine has to manually start the vncserver after logging in via telnet after which he is assigned an id for his desktop, then only he can see his desktop via the vncviewer where he specifies the id which was assigned when he started the vncserver. Problem : What i want to know is whether this process can be automated by the administrator so that everytime the machine starts the vncserver can be started for all the users in a sequence known by the administrator so that the id's of each of the users desktop would be know and only fixed id's could be given to the users to connect to their desktop. default owner of file

Hi, I want any directory or file created in my home dir (/home/sabu) to be owned by me irrespective of who creates it. I always do root login and when i create a file in my home dir the owner is root. I dont want to do 'su sabu' and then create the file ( I may be using mozilla ->save file as... ) or chown it later. Is there any way by which i can set the default owner of files in /home/sabu to sabu and not root....... regards, Sabu

How do I build a Linux Blackbox?

Hello everyone, I am interested in building a Linux blackbox. The typical distros that I switch between are Slackware and Debian. When I do a typical install of these distro, I pretty much install everything. Once I configure a system for a specific need I would like to strip off the unnecesary "stuff". For example, the Web server, GCC compiler need not be on this black box anymore. It is easy to remove them as well. How do you determine the dependency chain for the "removable" tools? I do think leaving the GCC compiler on it is important since there are patches and kernel updates to be installed frequently. Regardless the function of the blackbox, what are the minimum set of tools that need to be left alone on a black box system?
