Linux and Telex Support

Ok. I opened the telex machine and found the following details. 8088 pc chip 2 telex cards (for 2 lines) model No. 405-2 Chipset of the telex card AMD-8085A-2PC /P8085A 8135 EP. There are two 9pin cables connecting the telex cards to a DC/DC converter (what's that) There's a 360 KB floppy drive on the system with some system files. The floppy never used to work earlier, the drive cable was loose. The floppy contained some files command.com, autoexec.bat, start.com, duend.com (what's that). The machine does not need the floppy to boot. so the system's operating system must be on a boot rom. Noel. lost the root password

hi ! recently installed linux on my friend's comp. Now somehow he has forgotten the root password. Is it possible to recover the lost password? The password file is shadowed. Restart the > machine, and reset your password. > Philip Alternatively, you can boot in God mode / maintenance mode (i.e., Runlevel 1) and directly run the passwd command. It doesn't ask for the old password, directly prompts for a new one. Regards, Shailesh.

xcdroast issue

Hello, I had a machine with one CD drive. Then I got a CDwriter on trial "Creative 4224". When I connected the CD drive, xcdroast would not work. It would give me message like "...........scsi emulation not turned on .....". Kernel compilation failed. So I loaded Linux on a spare partition and xcdroast could now see the CDWriter. I returned the CDwriter to my friend and then purchased Samsung 208 CDwriter. This CDwriter was sensed by the kernel directly. But xcdroast gave me the same message and the CDwriter was not seen on xcdroast. I could however see the CD's as /mnt/cdrom and /mnt/cdrom1 I then copied the useful files from the old partition and again loaded Linux. Now CDwriter is seen with one issue (cd reader is not seen inxcdroast but that is a seperate issue). Now, i believe that I have taken a longer route in installing the first CDwriter and then another longer route in getting the next cdwriter working. Can someone give a better way of tackling this issue of chang of cdwriters. Anand

hi nikhil, well if u dont have a boot disk or resucue disk ... type this on the lilo prompt --> linux single & then u will get a root shell ... wherein u can change ur passwd by --> passwd or by editing the /etc/passwd & /etc/shadow files & removing the passwd part from the line for root. cheers~ </shahazad> On Mon, 27 Aug 2001, Nikhil Joshi wrote: > recently installed linux on my friend's comp. Then use sz filename after logging in, and start file download from hyperterminal.
