Add/ Remove users

Hi Friends, How can I add new user in my RHL 7.1 box. I tried using useradd <username> -p <password> It added the user. But when I tried to enter with this username & password the login fails. Actually if I try with above loging name & passwd it fails but if I try with above login name & roots passwd then it logs in. That means password is not setting properly. Where I'm going wrong? Also tell me how to Remove any user form Linux ? [OT] [Security] Xinetd

Just a small waste of your time. ;-) Those of you who using Inetd with Tcpwrappers - that includes me, should consider switching to Xinetd. It combines the functionality of both programs. Now, you don't have to maintain three different files for managing access to services. Besides it has pretty cool features that are a lot interesting. They website claims that it is more efficient than Tcpwrappers. The Xinetd website is at http://www.xinetd.org/ I think I will try it out Now! Fart

OT: Slashdot.org - Stolen ?

It seems theres something fishy going on . Whenever i use the url http://slashdot.org it leads me to the site www.hometrade.com. I tried this on 2 different ISPs Caltiger and Mantra. However http://www.slashdot.org leads to the right site. any ideas wots happening ? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? getting past vsnl's no-relay

Currently, this is a manual process. If you are using sendmail (I don't know about other mailers), then change to /var/spool/mqueue # vi qf* find a line like: S<the email address you send with> It will be just before a line starting with RPFD:<recipient's address> Change the address in the S<> line to whatever is your vsnl email address. Everything else can remain as it is. Mail should go through correctly. I am still trying to figure out how to get sendmail to do this correctly. Philip -- System restarting, wait... VSNL's guide to connecting from linux

Check this url: http://chennai.vsnl.com/setup/win95/linux/index.html that contains vsnl's guide to connecting to their service through linux based machines. they have help on ppp, fetchmail and kppp. Funny thing though. the linux directory is under the win95 directory. The telephone network is circuit switched. Your "same telephone line" is only till the first exchange. Whenever you make a call, your call is routed through different exchanges depending where you call and the "telephone line" is different. Think of the line as a train, that takes different routes to different destinations, switching tracks at different junctions. Are you "Googly'd" by the "differents" yet!? ;-) I had read a similar problem like yours in a PC mag Agony Nerd(C) column long time ago. The explanation that I gave you *is* what I read :-) Fart

Yeah!!! i install "wvdial" just a 15 min agao & viola i'm sending this through disnet. but i did what one member of this list (i'm extremely sorry, i can't remember his name..:( ) to at that "STUPID MODE = 1" at the end of the file. without that entry it fails to get connected. BTW what this funny sounded commands means & actually does? thanks again. Using kppp (KDE 2)

Hi, Recently installed the new version of KDE which came with the PCQ CD. One odd problem that I have is with the Internet Dialer. When I click on it, as usual it asks for the root password. Once I give the correct root password, nothing happens! The application does not start. There is no problem with the password. I have checked all the symlinks, etc. but there is no problem at all. There is no problem with the application also, because if I run it from /usr/sbin/kppp, the application starts. (Of course I cannot connect in that way, as I have started the application as a user and not root, so cannot open modem device) "kppp" is installed in /usr/bin/, which is actually a symlink to /usr/bin/consolehelper. So, when I click on kppp (Internet Dialer in K-->Internet-->Internet Dialer), consolehelper calls pam to authenticate. Hence, I get a dialogue asking for root password. Now after getting the root password, it should start /usr/sbin/kppp but for some reason it does not start it. The entries in /etc/pam.d/kppp is, #%PAM-1.0 auth sufficient /lib/security/pam_rootok.so auth required /lib/security/pam_stack.so service=system-auth session optional /lib/security/pam_xauth.so account required /lib/security/pam_permit.so And the entries in /etc/security/console.apps/kppp is, USER=root PROGRAM=/usr/sbin/kppp SESSION=true Is anything missing in here ? What seems to be the problem ? Anybody using KDE kppp from PCQ CD ? Can you check the entries in the above files ? Regards, Rajen. P.S. Sorry to be so rude ... don't people RTFM anymore??? There such wonderful HOWTO's, Guides and what not in the LDP ... then again, most software have good documentation under /usr/doc or /usr/share/doc. Then there are manpages, infopages, the "--help" or "-h" options ... As far as PPP goes, it come with its own wonderful sample options file and dialup scripts, if only you bother to read the docs!
