Hello people, i need some advice : Is it possible to give the Sun Certified Java Programmer exam without undergoing trainig in India. The Sun FAQ explicitly states that it is but the centres' list does not contain any Testing Centre in India. Are there any ? Also is there any standard certification test for C and C++. by standard i mean here something that is accepted in the industry.If so which and where can i give them. Finally something way way OT : I was told by some seniors that official certification like Sun Java Certification etc is given credit when applying for admission to US colleges after GRE If there are any (ex) engineering students around, can someone tell me if this is true ? People who keep username/password as vijay/vijay, and allow full access to their servers? It's high time the media (call a cracker a cracker) and police (uhh) get educated. How about calling these guys to the LUG meet and giving them a nice "getting started" tutorial. Manish -- All extremists should be taken out and shot.

I believe, you *have found* a bug! my friend :-) I think you should post your problem to the Linux newsgroups as well as send copies to the maintainers of XMMS, mp123, FreeAMP etc., But, do read there *bugs* section first before posting. Chances are they know about it and are working on it :-) Fart

Save yourself

I run XFig on Solaris, with desktop exported to my linux box. Within a few seconds of starting XFig, I get this error: No Response to the Save Yourself command. The program may be slow, stopped or broken. You may wait for it to respond or remove it. Stop It Now Wait The program has not stopped, is not slow and is not broken. I am using it while this error shows up, and using it well. Everything works perfectly. I could just put this window in the background, but it pops up every now and then. Any ideas? It doesn't happen everytime. In fact, happens at random. In my experience, this error normally occurs when one tries to stop X while some app is running. However, I am not trying to stop X. In fact, the only reason for starting X was to run xfig. Licence for using Linux

Hi Guys, I am thinking of installing Linux on all the computers/terminals in my office and also star office (or any such GUI similar to Word / Excel). Now we are using Win98 & MS office. I would like to know what are the licences that i will have to purchase. Can i install Linux from my chip cd / PCQ cd which i have with me. Will i have to purchase a cd for my co as well as my sister co. AS of now i am using linux installed from PCQ cd on my terminal and on my proxy, mail server. Also, I need some advice for the programs that i will need to replace my mail client, browser, etc, how to use foxpro under linux, etc. Thanks in advance. Odd problem with reading CD-ROMs

Hi all, Okay, I have a odd problem here reading a CD. I have a CD full of MP3s which was burned by a friend of mine who burned by some software on Windows. So, unfortunately, my Linux box is not able to see it correctly. It is able to see only some of the mp3 files, not all. That is not the problem though. The problem is that I am not able to play the mp3 files properly. During the decoding of mp3 file, mpg123 gives me the following type of error : Illegal Audio-MPEG-Header 0x27240dc1 at offset 0x400e6. Skipped 292 bytes in input. It does not stop decoding, but the output is not proper whenever the error occurs (since it keeps on skipping some part of the file). I get many more such errors while the song is playing. I have verified that the CD is not damaged, and nor it is corrupt, because in Windows with WinAmp I don't find any such problem. NOW comes the odd part. I am using kernel 2.4.6, Red Hat 6.2. (highly modified then the standard distro). If I use the old kernel - 2.2.16, I *don't* get the above mentioned problem. The mp3 file from the CD gets decoded without any problem. I have tried using kernel 2.4.3, 2.4.5, and of course the current 2.4.6. But with all of them the problem persits, but with the old kernel there are no problems whatsoever. I tried to play the other mp3 files and with those files also some error is always reported by mpg123 (while decoding) and then it skips some input of the file. I tried using xmms, mp3blaster also. All of them give error exactly at the same spot of the song. And with *all* of them there is no problem with the old kernel (2.2.16). I also tried using the latest versions of mpg123, mp3blaster and xmms. But still the same thing. With all of them I don't get any errors with the old kernel, but with the new kernel (2.4.x), I still get errors. Could it be that there are any changes in the drivers for CD-ROM which could be causing the problem ? When I boot into the new kernel (2.4.x) I get the following boot message, hdd: CREATIVECD4820E, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive With the old kernel (2.2.16) I get, hdd: CREATIVECD4820E, ATAPI CDROM drive Note the "CD/DVD-ROM" in the new kernel and only "CDROM" in the old kernel. Could this be driver problem ? Has anyone faced a similar problem. Regards, Rajen.
