ok here goes i am an absolutely faltu (read -just finished his Be comps last week ) ideal mind (what was it ideal minds being devils workshops).... and with little idea of linux limited to seeing it boot and typing vi/gcc blah blah at the prompt i survived college with barely writing a socket pgm and a fork pgm.. now i really want to learn network programming,shell scripting ..any gurus/good traning institutes in mumbai -- ? or do u all know any books /sites... i will be installing redhat 6.2 this week end frm pcq2k cd..i do have suse linux -- is redhat a good choice ? Hi, Many other linux cds reseller are selling star office cds or giving it free as a package. In one of the old Chip CDs also star office was there. Hence I believe I can redistribite it. /etc/sysctl.conf info

Where do I get information on how to configure my /etc/sysctl.conf? I am installing IBM DB2 and as a part of the procedure, I have to edit that file "set maximum message queues to 128" (I don't know what that means, but I am sure it's got nothing to do with email messages). Here's what I have to add to the file -- # Sets maximum number of message queues to 128 # Set this to 1024 or higher on production systems kernel.msgmni = 128 What does that parameter mean? There's no manpage for the conf file. You should consider yourself lucky. Many other BEs had to be content with Turbo C and the Alt-R and CTRL-F9 stuff. Many probably did not even know what a socket is. now i really want to learn network programming,shell scripting ..any gurus/good traning institutes in mumbai -- ? or do u all know any books /sites... i will be installing redhat 6.2 this week end frm pcq2k cd..i do have suse linux -- is redhat a good choice ? Red Hat 6.2 is a good choice. If possible get your hands on Richard Stevens' "Unix Network Programming" The new edition (second) comes in 2 volumes. I personally consider it the Bible of network progrmming and many will agree. It is a complete rewrite of the 1st. edition and is EXCELLENT to say the least. Both volumes may together cost around Rs. 550/-. But they have tremendous shelf value. Regards, Ashok
