Dear Readers, With the Fedora team, as usual, pushing the release date of FC6 again and again (before finally releasing it on 24th and it getting available for download on 25th), we were left with no option but to go for the next most requested distro on the bulletinn board - Mandriva Linux 2007. This distro is a treat for users who like to work on multi-architecture platforms (32-bit and 64-bit). connecting to "tata indicom broadband" using ubuntu

hello, can someone kindly help me with connecting to the "tata indicom" broadband connection using ubuntu 6.06? i know how to connect to the Internet using dialup (with modem), and also direct connection (even through proxy). but am stumped about the "tata indicom" connection; especially coz i dont have a modem, and still have to give a login username/password to connect. so i can't use dialup, nor direct connection. thanks for the help in advance :) -- warm regards, Pradnyesh Sawant -- If you are going through hell, keep going --Anon

Furthermore, the gNewSense team has created a set of software called Builder which allows users to create their own gNewSense-based distributions. gNewSense provides detailed instructions on how to use the software and the recipe to roll out a customized distro. The Free Software Foundation is providing the gNewSense team with a high end build machine (running with a free BIOS), with bandwidth and with assistance in developing artwork. FC6 Display Problem

Dear Friends After installing FC6 on my Athlon 1800+ machine, with SiS VGA ('lspci' detects Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 661/741/760/761 PCI/AGP VGA Display Adapter), and the monitor being LG Flatron E700S, the X was problemsome in the sense that a lot of black border was getting there on the console on all the four sides. I tried to fix it in FC6, but it was showing only generic 'CRT' display and an outlandish screen resolution. The way out was a bit stupid. I just copied the 'xorg.conf' from the SuSE 10 installation, without the file section obviously, and pasted it in the '/etc/X11' directory. And, really to my surprise, now everything X started working nice in FC6. But, as expected, there are problems: when i want to log out from X, at times it works and at times it hangs. Is there a not so stupid way out from this X fix in FC6? Till i am in X, FC6 is really working nice, and i need it particularly for its Bangla support, that is the best among the distributions i know, so i need to keep this installation. Hi Shiv, i checked out your article, one query however you mention : `` The recent scandal involving software engineers at the National Security Council Secretariat who leaked information to the American Central Intelligence Agency allegedly saw some of them swap secrets including information on India's nuclear doctrine for jobs with Microsoft." i don't remember hearing about this, and could not find any info on the same online. If you could please forward the link of this story that would be most appreciated. One complaint however, you mention the terms ``Linux Operating Systems", ``Linux Ubuntu Dapper Drake" and ``General Public Licence Linux OS" would it not be fair on your part to also mention GNU, ASF, BSD and other communities without whom you cannot call that entity an operating system. If the article's purpose is to raise awareness, it makes sense to also tell people about the community(s) Anyone have any comments on what i've written ? Regards, - vihan
