Knoppix customization and remastering

Hello to all linuxites My college was thinking of using the knoppix cd based version for their OS practicals thus eliminating need of installing linux on each machine. the students need mostly command line for practicals. It needs to be on a network while on knoppix as it's in case when it's on windows. Configuring the card everytime a person boots is a mess I was wondering if that could be done while booting itself ( either by assignin a static ip per cd or giving it a dhcp server name in the script) we could run a dhcp server from a linux. A samba would be required to store data to a windows machine which will act like a server or can I use a machine that's running only rh8 with a ftp deamon? Large order for Linux-OS PCs

Dear All The Maharashtra Police seems to be going in for large scale computerization. They have issued a tender notice for 1500 PCs, UPS and modems, with Linux as the OS [tender specification reads: "Linux operating System – latest version (along with Devnagiri script and Open Office Suite.) with latest Service Pack (preloaded) license and recovery CD media with every PC and compatible Antivirus software"]. hi, Kapil has asked me to try apt-setup, before using apt-get update. i tried it but after choosing the mirror for ftp, it gives an error that it could not connect to MY INSTITUTE's ftp site...time out.. i think it has to do something with the proxy settings. I am following the tutorial at http://gnubox.dyndns.org:8080/~sunil/knoppix.php In the tutorial the auther has asked to remove the link---/etc/resolv.conf--and to create a new resolv.conf file. i did this but it doesn't work. plz help. thanks, vivek. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? KNOPPIX remasetering: problem with apt-get.

Hi, I am trying to build a custom cd from knoppix. I am following the tutorial at http://gnubox.dyndns.org:8080/~sunil/knoppix.php when i do an apt-get the error is 'could not connect to...time out...' i think the problm is that my proxy server is not aloowing it to connect. so please help me in getting around this problem. Cable Internet is a huge business / Tech area. There are various kinds of details you might want - e.g. Network itself (Back End, Distribution, Client-end), security, performance - especially in Metro environment, effect of metro envioronment on the distribution networks, Network applications e.g. browsing, multimedia, VoD, video streaming etc. If you just take the network itself then these are some of the thins that would come in - MAN, RF-Cable based networks, Fiber to the Kerb or Hibrid Networks), Network Management and User Life Cycle management are some of the other areas. Hi everyone, The main reason for low turnout for Sept 14th meet was the fact that the announcement was made at the last minute and no agenda was set in advance. The minutes of the meeting : Meeting starrted at usual time, and as usual i bumped in late. Dr Nagarjun had got along is beautiful Apple Book. Those who werenot there seriously missed something. The other issue over the meeting revolved around localization efforts of Prof J Shah and how low cost computing can be clubbed with localization project to make affordable computing solutions. Also the venue and agenda for next meet are also in place. October Meet : Date : 11th October 2003 - Venue : VJTI - Mechnical Dept 1st Floor - Computer Lab / Classroom. Agenda : 1) Progress made by Localization teams. - This will be default component of every glug meet 2) GIS - GRAS ----> by Swapnil 3) Low cost computing hardware ---> Terrence D'Souza.(sorry if i messed your spelling ) 4) Blender --> Dr Nagarjun will speak about Blender which out there to give Flash a run for its space.
