I am not sure if all the stalls have been allocated yet but there is no harm in trying. But more importantly these questions need to be addressed - #1 Do you want a KDE Stall at FOSS.IN/2007? #2 Who all are willing to volunteer for the KDE stall? #3 What all do you want to see at the KDE stall? Please note a few things : We are not allowed to sell merchandise at this stall. So lets not discuss things like - we can sell such and such. We are however allowed to give away merchandise. Also people who would like to volunteer - - its a fun job yes but be aware, you will miss the cool talks because you have to be man the stall. - 2-3 people at a time at the stall are more than enough. Nobody is expected to give more than 3 hours per day each day ( this is an estimate assuming that we will get atleast 9-10 volunteers during the main conference ). So basically, 3 shifts of 3 hours each. So basically a commitment for 3 hours or more per day during the Main Conference. - Ofcourse, if there is one all important talk you *have* to attend, I am guessing you can mutually decide among the volunteers take turns. - Assuming that there will be KDE talks during the Main Conference - of course all of us will go to attend that talk ( unless you are not interested in that talk and want to miss it, why would you want to do that? ; ) - Don't forget - volunteer might have to come in early - say about 30 minutes to arrange stuff and what not and probably leave last. What we can do at the stall - - Show case KDE - esp freshly baked KDE 4 from SVN - Explain potential/curious developers/contributors/students how to get involved, where to start, where to look for help. - Hand out flyers, KDE Distros - Showcase KDE based distros - Suggestions? What will you get if you volunteer ? - Lots of good wishes - Oh well you want more right .... , a KDE/KDE-India T-shirt. ( Since t-shirts[*] will be limited you will get preference :) - Lots of good wishes and gratitude. - Maybe some surprise - may be not. In case you have not checked recently - the updated KDE Project Day schedule is here [1]. It of course is not carved in stone. Will let everybody know when the speaker lists are out. Thanks for understanding. Please add to this thread any points that I might have missed. I would be more than happy if we can have a KDE Stall, but if the interest is low on this on or if I don't get enough volunteers, the idea might have to be scrapped. [Commercial] Invite suggestions for Open Source India Week (LinuxAsia)

Hi all, LinuxAsia is now morphing into a bigger avatar -- Open Source India Week -- a three city event that will start on a Monday from Bangalore and end on a Friday at Delhi, with a stop at Mumbai on a Wednesday. How is it different from LinuxAsia as it was? --------------------------------------------- 1. OSIW will be held in three cities: Bangalore, Mumbai and New Delhi 2. The tech track will, almost entirely be, 'by the techies, for the techies' (and that's precisely the reason for this email: to request you to shape it!) What is the goal of the event (what sets it apart from other FOSS events in India)? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. OSIW is not focused on specific projects, but on the technologies and concepts behind these. For example, workshops on technopreneurship through FOSS models, embedded systems, developing applns for mobiles, the future of Web programming (hmm, maybe even more power in the user's hands!), etc. What's more, it is not just about software but spans the entire gamut of IT solutions that qualify as free/open source. For example, technologies like the T-Engine also find a place. 2. Also, OSIW aims to foster entrepreneurship through FOSS models. If any of you run companies based on FOSS, please come forth and encourage others. Perhaps it would also be a good idea to bring in venture capitalists and get to know their views on FOSS companies, how to pitch to them, etc. It would also be nice to highlight what is hot and what is not in terms of tech domains so that those with start-up dreams know where to invest their energy. Also, I always wonder how some projects like Ubuntu rose to fame much faster than others, maybe others would like to know that too. 3. Companies can also come forth to conduct customised workshops for techies and users. 4. The FOSS India awards have also been launched and will be given away at the event. Entries are invited (http://www.openitis.com/openitis/index1.php) I am launching a discussion on behalf of the non-profit FOSII (http://fosii.org) to seek the suggestions of the community on workshop themes, preferred topics of discussion/talks, suggestions for the event as a whole, possible help to link up with keynote speakers, etc -- these will be compiled and discussed with the OSIW/LA team. If you have any nits about the past LA episodes to dig up, I am not the person to discuss it with. But if you have any suggestions for the upcoming event, I am all ears. I request you to please share your thoughts on the Wiki, and please spread this message across the community, so we get more suggestions (already posted on Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi and Goa GNU/Linux user group mailing lists). restrict max . number of mail per user

Hi Is there a way at the server side to to restrict user to send out mails . I am currently using postfix mail server having virtual domains and users on it. Which parameter do i need to edit in the main.cf file to restrict users to send out mails. ( this feature i want to enable cause i don't want people doing mass mailing ) Thank you -- Agnello . I am planning to get myself a new machine to be used as a server. To deploy ubuntu 7.04 server version (amd64 bit). It would be a LAMP stack with subversion, wiki, trac, postfix. Does anyone have the CD/DVD handy? ubuntu 7.04 amd 64 bit server version. thanks. abhishek

Hello All, MTNL's triband is getting from bad to worse with connectivity problems, when I need it the most. So I am pondering over dumping the extra line and going for the USB modems from Tata or Reliance. That will give me connectivity outside Mumbai too. Simple File Browser for KDE

Hello All, If you are using KDE and don't want Konqueror but a simple file browser then install Dolphin using apt or adept. Then right click on any folder and select 'Open With'.
